Question:

In the absence of the Imam of our time (a.), is it permissible to stone?

Answer:

Aban Ibn Taghlib reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “Two kinds of blood that God has allowed in Islam may not be shed by the judgement of anyone until God sends the Rising (Qa’im) of the people of the house (a.). When God sends the Rising One (Qa’im) of the people of the house (a.), he judges with the judgment of God. To the one who is chaste and has illegitimate intercourse, he carries out the stoning, and to the one who refuses to give to the poor, he gives a slap to his neck.” [Al-Faqih from As-Saduq, Volume 2, Page 10, Hadith 1589]
