Question:
One of the innovators claimed that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) had asked society not to accept him and the Imams (a.), but to follow the Qur’an and the Sunnah. The source was the 1st volume of Tanqih-ul-Maqal on page 174. Is this true?

Hisham Ibn Hakam reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “Accept no saying (Hadith) about us except that it is in agreement with the Qur’an and the Sunnah or that you find with it a testimony of our previous sayings (Hadith), for Mughirah Ibn Sa’id, God curse him, added to the books of the companions of my Father sayings that my Father did not tell, so fear God and accept nothing about us that is different from the Word of our Lord and the Sunnah of our Prophet (s.), because when we say a saying, we speak: God said and the messenger of God (s ) said.” [Tanqih-ul-Maqal by Al-Mamqani, Volume 1, page 174]
وفي صحيحة هشام بن الحكم عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام قال: لا تقبلوا علينا حديثا إلا ما وافق القرآن والسنة أو تجدون معه شاهدا من أحاديثنا المتقدمة فإن المغيرة بن سعيد لعنه الله دس في كتب أصحاب أبي أحاديث لم يحدث بها أبي، فاتقوا الله ولا تقبلوا علينا ما خالف قول ربنا وسنة نبينا صلى الله عليه وآله فإنا إذا حدثنا قلنا قال الله عز وجل وقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله
Ali Ibn Hakam reported that Husain Ibn Ibn Abi l-Ala’ said: “I mentioned in the presence of Ja’far As-Sadiq (a.) our statement about the representatives: “Obedience to them is duty.” Then he said: “Yes, it is so. They are those about whom God says: “O you who believe obey God and obey the Messenger and those who have authority among you.” (4:59) And they are those about whom the Exalted says: “Your close associate is only God, and His Messenger, and the believers, who keep up prayer and pay the toll, while they bow down.” (5:55) [Al-Kafi by Al-Kulaini, volume 1 page 187 Hadith 8]
