Are there reports of people who fast, whose job is to travel?

Answer:
Hisham Ibn Al-Hakam reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “The hirer and the camel herder, who moves back and forth and is restless, performs the prayer completely and fasts the month of Ramadan.” [Wasa’il-ush-Shi’ah of Al-Hurr Al-Amili, Volume 5 Page 515 Hadith 1]

عن هشام بن الحكم عن الإمام الصادق عليه السلام قال: المكاري والجمال الذي يختلف وليس له مقام يتم الصلاة ويصوم شهر رمضان

Sama’ah Ibn Mihran reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “The shortening (of prayer) and the breaking (of fasting) are not separable, so whoever shortens shall break it.” [Wasa’il-ush-Shi’ah of Al-Hurr Al-Amili, Volume 10 page 184 Hadith 2]

عن سماعة بن مهران عن الإمام الصادق عليه السلام قال: وليس يفترق التقصير والافطار فمن قصر فليفطر

Zurarah Ibn A’yan reported that Imam Al-Baqir (a.) said: “For four, the complete performance is obligatory, whether they travel or stay: The hirer, the hired, the shepherd and the messenger, for it is their job.” [Wasa’il-ush-Shi’ah of Al-Hurr Al-Amili, Volume 5 Page 515 Hadith 2]

عن زرارة بن أعين عن الإمام الباقر عليه السلام قال: أربعة قد يجب عليهم التمام في سفر كانوا أو حضر المكاري والكري والراعي والاشتقان لأنه عملهم

Muhammad Ibn Muslim reported that one of the Imams (a.) said: “It is not the duty of the seafarers in their ship to shorten and it is not the duty of the hired and the camel herders to shorten.” [Wasa’il-ush-Shi’ah of Al-Hurr Al-Amili, Volume 5 Page 516 Hadith 4]

عن محمد بن مسلم عن أحدهما عليه السلام قال: ليس على الملاحين في سفينتهم تقصير ولا على المكاري والجمال

Ishaq Ibn Ammar reported that he asked the Imam (a.): “Is it obligatory for the sailors and the Bedouins to shorten (the prayer)? He said: “No, they carry their dwellings with them.” [Wasa’il-ush-Shi’ah by Al-Hurr Al-Amili, Volume 5 Page 516 Hadith 5]

عن إسحاق بن عمار قال سألته عن الملاحين والاعراب هل عليهم تقصير؟ قال: لا بيوتهم معهم

Someone reported to Sulaiman Ibn Ja’far that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “The Bedouins do not shorten and it is therefore so, that they carry their dwellings with them.” [Wasa’il-ush-Shi’ah by Al-Hurr Al-Amili, Volume 5 Page 516 Hadith 6]

عن سليمان بن جعفر عمن ذكره عن الإمام الصادق عليه السلام قال: الاعراب لا يقصرون وذلك أن منازلهم معهم

Musa Al-Kazim (a.) reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “The sailors perform the prayer in a complete way in their ships.” [Wasa’il-ush-Shi’ah by Al-Hurr Al-Amili, Volume 5 Page 516 Hadith 7]

عن موسى الكاظم عليه السلام عن الإمام الصادق عليه السلام قال: أصحاب السفن يتمون الصلاة في سفنهم

Ja’far As-Sadiq (a.) reported that Imam Al-Baqir (a.) said: “Seven do not shorten the prayer: The collector who moves back and forth because of his collection, the commander who moves back and forth because of his command, the merchant who moves back and forth from place to place because of his trade, the shepherd, the Bedouin who goes to collect raindrops, the planter of trees, the man who is in search of hunting, thereby desiring the benefits of this world, and the warrior who cuts off the path.” [Wasa’il-ush-Shi’ah of Al-Hurr Al-Amili, Volume 5 Page 516 Hadith 9]

عن جعفر الصادق عليه السلام عن الإمام الباقر عليه السلام قال: سبعة لا يقصرون الصلاة الجابي الذي يدور في جبايته والأمير الذي يدور في إمارته والتاجر الذي يدور في تجارته من سوق إلى سوق والراعي والبدوي الذي يطلب مواضع القطر ومنبت الشجر والرجل الذي يطلب الصيد يريد به لهو الدنيا، والمحارب الذي يقطع السبيل
