Question:

How are the infallible (a.) connected with the believers?

Answer:

Abu Basir reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “The believer is the brother of the believer and they are like one body. If a suffering happens to him, this pain is also felt in the rest of the body. The spirit of the two is a single spirit and the spirit of the believer is more in connection with the Spirit of God than the rays of the sun are in connection with the sun.” Muhammad Baqir Al-Majlisi writes: “Authentic (Sahih) at the highest levels.” [Al-Kafi of Al-Kulaini, volume 2 page 166 Hadith 4; Mir’at-ul-Uqul of Al-Majlisi, volume 9 page 12]

Ja’far As-Sadiq (a.) reported that the Prophet Muhammad (s.) said: “When I was brought to my Lord during the night journey, He shared with me a revelation and inspiration behind the curtain, and He said to me: “O Muhammad, whoever humiliates a protégé of Mine has made war with Me, and whoever makes war against Me, I make war against him.” I said: “O Lord, who is that protégé of yours about whom You have informed me that You wage war against him who wages war against Me?” He said: “This is he from whom I received his covenant for you, and also for the guardian authorized by you, and for your descendants in regard to the guardianship.” Hadi An-Najafi writes: “The tradition is authentic according to its chain (Sahih).” [Al-Kafi of Al-Kulaini, volume 2 page 353 Hadith 10; Mawsu’at Ahadith Ahl Al-Bait of Hadi An-Najafi, volume 3 page 54 – 55 Hadith 7]

Al-Husain Ibn Sa’id reported that the Imams Al-Baqir and As-Sadiq (a.) said: “The servant submits to God on the day of resurrection and therefore He will settle up with him quickly. Then God exposes him and says: “O believer, what kept you from visiting Me when I was sick?” The servant says: “You are my Lord and I am Your servant, You are the Living One whom neither pain nor suffering can touch.” Then the Lord says: “He that is hostile to a believer has already been hostile to Me.” Then the Great One says: “Do you know this one who is the son of that one?” The servant says: “Yes.” Then the Lord says: “What kept you from visiting him when he was sick? If you had visited him, you would have visited Me and then you would have found Me at your request. Then if you had asked Me for a need, I would have taken care of it and not kept it away from you.” [Jami’ Ahadith Ash-Shi’ah of Al-Burujirdi, Volume 3 Page 113 Hadith 43]

Ibn Abi Najran reported that Imam Ar-Rida (a.) said: “Whoever is an enemy of our followers is our enemy and whoever is a follower of them is our follower, for they are created by us and from our clay. He who is a lover of our followers is from us, and he who has anger against our followers is not from us. Our followers see through the light of God and are received into the mercy of God and they are the successful ones through the glory of God. None of our followers are sick without us being sick and none of our followers are sad without us being sad and none of our followers are happy without us being happy. None of our followers is hidden from us, whether in the east or west of the earth. Whoever abandons the faith of our followers turns against us and whoever abandons possessions of them is their heir. Our followers are those who establish prayer, pay the alms, make their pilgrimage to the Holy House, fast in the month of Ramadan, turn to the people of the house, and dissociate themselves from their enemies. These are the people of faith and piety. These are the people of righteousness and the fear of God. He who rejects them rejects God, and he who attacks them attacks me, for they are the true servants of God and his true protectors. By God, one of them intercedes for the number of the sons of Rabi’ah and Mudar, and God grants them intercession on the basis of His glory of it.” [Sifat-ush-Shi’ah of As-Saduq, pages 3 – 4]
