Muhammad Ibn Makki Al-Amili writes:

وقد ذكر فيما تقدم التصريح بأن قاضي الفريضة يصلي أمامها نافلة ركعتين وأن النبي صلى الله عليه وآله فعل ذلك قال الكليني والصدوق: الله أنام النبي صلى الله عليه وآله عن صلاة الصبح رحمة للأمة

“It has already been clearly mentioned before that the one who is making up for it performs the obligatory prayer before the two additional bows (Rak’ah) and the Prophet (s.) did so. Muhammad Ibn Ya’qub Al-Kulaini and Muhammad Ibn Ali As-Saduq said, “God made the Prophet (s.) oversleep the morning prayer out of mercy for the community.” [Dhikra Ash-Shi’ah, volume 2 page 403]
