Question:

What was the opinion of the scholar Al-Majlisi about infallibility?

Answer:

Muhammad Baqir Al-Majlisi writes: “Our companions among the followers of the Imams (a.) agreed on the infallibility of the Prophets and Imams (a.) in view of the small and great sins committed out of intention, error or forgetfulness, both before the prophethood and leadership, and afterwards, and much more likely from the time of their birth until their return to God, and no one has a difference of opinion in this except As-Saduq, Muhammad Ibn Babawaih and his teacher Ibn Al-Walid, God sanctify their souls, because they considered forgetfulness by God permissible, but not forgetfulness by Satan and it may be that their external position, due to their known background, does not evade agreement. As for forgetting in matters outside of the duties and prohibitions, such as what is permitted and frowned upon, most of our companions also express the agreement that it is excluded in relation to the prophets and imams (a.).” [Bihar-ul-Anwar, Volume 17 page 108]
