Is the Qur’an free of errors according to the companion Abdullah Ibn Abbas?

Ikrimah reported that Abdullah Ibn Abbas said: “The Prophet Muhammad (s.) pressed me and said: “O God, teach him the book!” [Sahih Al-Bukhari, Hadith 75]

حدثنا أبو معمر قال حدثنا عبد الوارث قال حدثنا خالد عن عكرمة عن ابن عباس قال: ضمني رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وقال اللهم علمه الكتاب

Mujahid reported that Abdullah Ibn Abbas spoke about the verse: “Do not enter houses that are not your own houses until you have made your presence known.” (24:27) Said: “The scribe has made a mistake. It says: “Until you have asked if you may.” Al-Hakim An-Naisaburi wrote: “This tradition is authentic (Sahih) according to the conditions of the two scholars (Al-Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not publish it.” Muhammad Ibn Ahmad Adh-Dhahabi writes: “It meets the conditions of Sahih Al-Bukhari and Muslim.” [Al-Mustadrak, Volume 2 Page 430 Hadith 3496]

حدثنا أبو علي الحافظ أنبأ عبدان الأهوازي ثنا عمرو بن محمد الناقد ثنا محمد بن يوسف ثنا سفيان عن شعبة عن جعفر بن إياس عن مجاهد عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما في قوله تعالى: لا تدخلوا بيوتا غير بيوتكم حتى تستأنسوا قال: أخطأ الكاتب حتى تستأذنوا قال الحاكم النيسابوري: هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين ولم يخرجاه وقال محمد بن أحمد الذهبي: على شرط البخاري ومسلم

Jalal-ud-Din As-Suyuti writes: “Al-Faryabi, Sa’id Ibn Mansur, Abd Ibn Humaid, Ibn Jarir, Ibn Al-Mundhir, Ibn Abi Hatim, Ibn Al-Anbari in Al-Masahif, Al-Hakim, who classified it as authentic (Sahih), Al-Baihaqi in Shu’ab-ul-Iman and Ad-Diya’ in Al-Mukhtarah report through different paths to Abdullah Ibn Abbas that he mentioned the verse: “Do not enter houses that are not your own houses until you have made yourselves known and greeted their inhabitants.” (24:27) Whereupon he said: “The scribe has made a mistake. The verse reads: “Until you have asked if you may.” [Ad-Durr-ul-Manthur, volume 11 page 5]

قال جلال الدين السيوطي: وأخرج الفريابي وسعيد بن منصور وعبد بن حميد وابن جرير وابن المنذر وابن أبي حاتم وابن الانباري في المصاحف والحاكم وصححه والبيهقي في شعب الايمان والضياء في المختارة من طرق عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما في قوله لا تدخلوا بيوتا غير بيوتكم حتى تستأنسوا وتسلموا على أهلها قال: أخطأ الكاتب انما هي حتى تستأذنوا

Isma’il Ibn Umar Ibn Kathir writes: “Hushaim reported from Mughirah that Ibrahim said: “In the copy of the Qur’an by Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud it says: “‘Until you have greeted their inhabitants and asked for permission.” (24:27) This is also reported by Abdullah Ibn Abbas and it is the choice of Ibn Jarir At-Tabari.” [Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Volume 6 page 38]
