Ni’matullah Ibn Muhammad Al-Jaza’iri writes:

إنما يريد الله ليذهب عنكم الرجس أهل البيت أجمع علماء الإسلام إلا من شذ على أن المراد من هذه الآية أهل بيت النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وهم علي وفاطمة الحسنان عليهم السلام وعندنا بدخول الأئمة عليهم السلام والمراد من الإرادة التي يتبعها التطهير وإلا فالإرادة المطلقة غير متخصة بهم

“God only wants to keep the blemish away from you, people of the house” (33:33). With a few exceptions, the scholars of Islam agreed that this verse refers to the people of the Prophet’s house (s.) and these are Ali, Fatimah, Hasan and Husain (a.) and according to us, the Imams (a.) are included and the will which follows it refers to keeping it clean. Otherwise, the absolute will would not be specifically intended for them.”

روى الثعلبي عن أم سلمة أن النبي صلى الله عليه وآله كان في بيتها فأتته فاطمة ببرمة فيها حريرة فقال لها: ادعي زوجك وابنيك فجاءت بهم فطعموا ثم ألقى عليهم كساء عليه خيبريا وقال: اللهم هؤلاء أهل بيتي وعترتي فاذهب عنهم الرجس وطهرهم تطهيرا فقلت: يا رسول الله وأنا معهم؟ قال: أنت إلى خير
“At-Tha’labi transmitted from Umm Salamah that the Prophet (s.) was in her house when Fatimah (a.) brought him a bowl of soup. So he said to her: “Call your husband and your sons.” Then she brought them in and they ate. Then he threw a cloak over her, a khaibari on him, and said: “Allah, these are the people of my house and my lineage. So keep away the blemish from them and keep them perfectly clean” (33:33) I said: “O Messenger of God, am I with them? He said: “you are for good.”
والرجس قال ابن عباس: هو عمل الشيطان وما ليس لله فيه رضا وهذا هو معنى العصمة وقوله لأنه فضل المراد به أن إذهاب الرجس فضل عظيم وكذلك الطهارة المنتظرة من جميع الأوساخ والأدناس
“And about the blemish Abdullah Ibn Abbas said: ” It is the work of Satan and God is not satisfied with it.” And this is the meaning of infallibility and by his statement “for it is an advantage” is meant that keeping away the stain is a mighty privilege and so is the expected purity from all dirt and impurities.
وأما توسيط هذه الآية بين آيات النساء فالظاهر أنه من أغاليط عثمان في مصحفه أو أنه وضعه في هذا الوضع قصدا وعمدا وإن جاز أن يكون هذا هو المنزل كما في كثير من آيات القرآن فتأمل
“And as for the position of the verse (33:33) in the middle between the verses about women, this is obviously one of the mistakes of Uthman that he made in his manuscript (Mushaf) or he placed it intentionally and deliberately in this place, although it is allowed that this is the descent, as in many of the verses of the Qur’an, so make reflections.” [Lawami’-ul-Anwar, page 282-283]
