Question:

What do the people of the house (a.) report about the knowledge of Salman (r.)?

Answer:

Ja’far As-Sadiq (a.) reported that the Prophet Muhammad (s.) said to Salman: “O Salman, if you had shown your knowledge to Miqdad, he would have become disbelieving, o Miqdad, if you had shown your knowledge to Salman, he would have become disbelieving.” [Ikhtiyar Ma’rifat Ar-Rijal of At-Tusi, Volume 1 Page 47 Hadith 23]

طاهر بن عيسى الوراق، رفعه إلى محمد بن سفيان، عن محمد بن سليمان الديلمي، عن علي بن أبي حمزة، عن أبي بصير، قال سمعت أبا عبد الله عليه السلام يقول: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: يا سلمان لو عرض علمك على مقداد لكفر، يا مقداد لو عرض علمك على سلمان لكفر

Isa Ibn Hamzah reported that he asked Imam As-Sadiq (a.): “What of the tradition about the four?” He said: “Which one is it?” I said: “The four for whom the Paradise has longed for.” He said: “Yes, to them belongs Salman, Abu Dharr, Al-Miqdad and Ammar.” I said: “Who is the best of them?” He said: “Salman.” Then he kept silent for a while, saying: “Salman acquired such knowledge that Abu Dharr would have disbelieved if he had known.” [Al-Ikhtisas of Al-Mufid, page 12]

حدثنا أحمد بن محمد بن يحيى، عن أحمد بن إدريس، عن عمران بن موسى، عن موسى ابن جعفر البغدادي، عن عمرو بن سعيد المدائني، عن عيسى بن حمزة قال: قلت لأبي عبد الله عليه السلام: الحديث الذي جاء في الأربعة، قال: وما هو؟ قلت، الأربعة التي اشتاقت إليهم الجنة، قال: نعم منهم سلمان وأبو ذر والمقداد وعمار، قلت: فأيهم أفضل؟ قال: سلمان، ثم أطرق، ثم قال: علم سلمان علما لو علمه أبو ذر كفر

Mas’adah Ibn Sadaqah reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “One day, the caution (Taqiyyah) was mentioned to Ali Zain-ul-Abidin (a.), whereupon he said: “By God, if Abu Dharr had known what Salman carries in his heart, he would have killed him and the Prophet Muhammad (s.) brothered them together. So what do you expect from the other creatures? The knowledge of the knowledgeable is difficult to comprehend. No one can bear it except a sent prophet or a close angel or a faithful servant whose heart is tested by God for faith. Salman became one of these knowledgeable ones, for he is a man who belongs to us the people of the house. Therefore, i have counted him among the knowledgeable.” [Al-Kafi of Al-Kulaini, Volume 1 Page 401 Hadith 2]

أحمد بن إدريس، عن عمران بن موسى، عن هارون بن مسلم، عن مسعدة ابن صدقة، عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام قال: ذكرت التقية يوما عند علي بن الحسين عليهما السلام فقال: والله لو علم أبو ذر ما في قلب سلمان لقتله ولقد آخا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله بينهما، فما ظنكم بسائر الخلق، إن علم العلماء صعب مستصعب، لا يحتمله إلا نبي مرسل أو ملك مقرب أو عبد مؤمن امتحن الله قلبه للايمان، فقال: وإنما صار سلمان من العلماء لأنه أمرء منا أهل البيت، فلذلك نسبته إلى العلماء
