Hasan Ibn Muhammad reported from his grandfather that Muhammad Ibn Ja’far and others said: “Someone from the people of his house went to Ali, the son of Husain (a.). He listened to him and insulted him. But he did not speak to him. When he went away, he said to his company: “You have heard what this man said, and I wish that you will go with me to see him so that you may hear my answer to him.” So they said to him: “We do, and we have desired that you speak to him and that we speak.” Then he took up his sandals and walked while he said: “Those who repress anger and forgive men, and God loves those who do good.” (3:134) Then we knew that he would say nothing to him. So he went out until he came to the residence of the man. So he called him and said: “Tell him: “This is Ali, the son of Husain.” Then he came out to us while he was prepared for evil and had no doubt that he was coming to take revenge on him for some of the things that came from him. But Ali, the son of Husain (a.), said to him: “My brother, arrogantly you have stood by me and talked and talked and talked. Now if what you said applies to me, then I ask God for forgiveness for it, and if what you said does not apply to me, then God forgive you.” Then the man kissed his forehead and said: “Rather I said about you what does not apply to you and which I rather deserve.” The narrator of the saying said: “The man was Hasan, son of Hasan.” [Al-Irshad of Al-Mufid, Volume 2, Page 145 – 146]

Ali Ibn Isa reported that Sufyan said: “Someone came to Ali, the son of Husain (a.) and said: “So-and-so came upon you and caused you harm.” He said: “Then go along with me to him.” So he set out together with him, thinking that he would take revenge on him for himself. But when he came to him, he said: “O this one, if what you said about me is true, then may He forgive me, praise be to Him, and if what you said about me is false, then God forgive you.” [Al-Bihar of Al-Majlisi, Volume 46, Page 98]

Abdullah Ibn Abbas reported that Prophet Muhammad (s.) said: “God combined for us ten characteristics which He did not combine for anyone before us and which will not be with anyone after us. With us is the judgment, perseverance, knowledge, prophethood, magnanimity, bravery, frugality, sincerity, purity and abstinence. We are the word of mindfulness, the right path, the highest example, the greatest proof, the firmest handle and the strongest rope, and we are those to whom God commanded love. (42:23) What is there after the right way except the wrong way? How can you be led astray?” [Al-Khisal of As-Saduq, page 432]
