Someone asked Imam Sadiq (a.s.):“How did the common people make the day of Ashura’ a day of blessings?” Thereupon Imam Sadiq (a.s.) cried and said: “When Husain (a.s.) was killed, the people went to Sham to Yazid and invented traditions for him and received salary for it from the financial resources. The things, which they invented, are about this day and that it is a day of blessing, so that people will be distracted from mourning and crying and unhappiness and sorrow and will be motivated towards joy and happiness and seeking blessing and rectification on this day, God judge between us and them!” [ilal-ush-Shara’i’, vol. 1 p. 226]

قيل للإمام الصادق عليه السلام: فكيف سمت العامة يوم عاشوراء يوم بركة فبكى عليه السلام ثم قال: لما قتل الحسين عليه السلام تقرب الناس بالشام إلى يزيد فوضعوا له الاخبار وأخذوا عليه الجوائز من الأموال فكان مما وضعوا له أمر هذا اليوم وانه يوم بركة ليعدل الناس فيه من الجزع والبكاء والمصيبة والحزن إلى الفرح والسرور والتبرك والاستعداد فيه حكم الله مما بيننا وبينهم

Mitham Tammar (r.a.) was asked: “How do the people declare the day, on which Hussein (a.s.) was killed, as a day of blessing?” Thereupon, he (r.a.) cried and replied: “They will refer to a hadith, which they invented, that Ashura’ would be the day on which God turned to Adam, but in reality, God turned to Adam (a.s. ) in the month of Dhu l-Hijjah and they claim that Ashura’ would be the day when God accepted the repentance of David (a.s.), but in reality God accepted his repentance in the month of Dhu l-Hijjah and they claim that Ashura’ would be the day when God took Jonah (a.s. ) from the belly of the whale, but in reality God released him from the belly of the whale in the month of Dhu l-Qa’dah and they claim that Ashura’ would be the day when the ark of Noah (a.s.) was stranded on Mount Judi, but in reality it was stranded on the 18th day of the month of Dhu l-Hijjah. Day of the month of Dhu l-Hijjah on Mount Judi and they claim that Ashura’ would be the day when God parted the sea for the sons of Israel, but in reality it occurred in the month of Rabi’-ul-Awwal.” [Al-Hada’iq-un-Nadirah, Vol, 13 page 374]

قيل لميثم التمار رضي الله عنه: وكيف يتخذ الناس ذلك اليوم الذي قتل فيه الحسين بن علي عليهما السلام يوم بركة؟ فبكى ميثم رحمه الله ثم قال سيزعمون بحديث يضعونه أنه اليوم الذي تاب الله فيه على آدم عليه السلام وإنما تاب الله على آدم في ذي الحجة ويزعمون أنه اليوم الذي قبل الله فيه توبة داود عليه السلام وإنما قبل الله توبته في ذي الحجة، ويزعمون أنه اليوم الذي أخرج الله فيه يونس عليه السلام من بطن الحوت وإنما أخرجه الله من بطن الحوت في ذي القعدة ويزعمون أنه اليوم الذي استوت فيه سفينة نوح عليه السلام على الجودي وإنما استوت على الجودي يوم الثامن عشر من ذي الحجة، ويزعمون أنه اليوم الذي فلق الله فيه البحر لبني إسرائيل وإنما كان ذلك في ربيع الأول
