“He causes the angels to descend with the Spirit of His Cause, to the one he wants of His servants saying: ﴾Warn that besides Me there is no God. So esteem Me.﴿” [An-Nahl 16:2]

يُنزّل الملائكة بالروح من أمره على من يشاء من عباده أن أنذروا أنه لا إله إلا أنا فاتقون

Husain Ibn Abi l-Ala’ reported that Sa’d Al-Iskaf said: “Someone came to the Commander of the Believers (a.) to ask him about the spirit: ﴾Is it not Gabriel?﴿ Then the Commander of the Believers (a.) said: ﴾Gabriel is one of the angels and the spirit is not Gabriel.﴿ So he repeated this to the man, whereupon he said to him: ﴾You have made an outrageous statement. No one claims that the spirit is not Gabriel.﴿ Then the Commander of the Believers (a.) said to him: ﴾You are misguided. You are narrating from the people of misguidance. God says to His Prophet (s.): ﴾The matter of God has come to pass. Therefore do not seek to hasten it. Praise be to Him, and exalted is He above what they associate. (16:1) He causes the angels to descend with the Spirit.” (16:2) And the spirit is not the angels (s.).﴿ [Al-Kafi of Al-Kulaini, Volume 1, Page 274, Hadith 6]

محمد بن يحيى عن محمد بن الحسين عن علي بن أسباط، عن الحسين بن أبي العلاء عن سعد الإسكاف قال: أتى رجل أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام يسأله عن الروح، أليس هو جبرئيل فقال له أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام: جبرئيل عليه السلام من الملائكة والروح غير جبرئيل، فكرر ذلك على الرجل فقال له: لقد قلت عظيما من القول ما أحد يزعم أن الروح غير جبرئيل فقال له أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام: إنك ضال تروي عن أهل الضلال يقول الله تعالى لنبيه صلى الله عليه وآله: أتى أمر الله فلا تستعجلوه سبحانه وتعالى عما يشركون يُنزّل الملائكة بالروح والروح غير الملائكة صلوات الله عليهم

Abu l-Jarud reported that Imam Al-Baqir (a.) said about the verse: ﴾to the one He wants from His servants saying: “Warn that there is no God but Me. So esteem Me”﴿ (16:2): “With the Book and Prophethood.” [Tafsir-ul-Qumi, Vol. 1, page 382]

أبو الجارود عن محمد بن علي الباقر عليه السلام في الآية: على من يشاء من عباده ان انذروا انه لا إله إلا انا فاتقون قال: بالكتاب والنبوة

Abu Basir reported about Imam Al-Baqir (a.): “I asked him about the Word of God: ﴾He makes the angels descend to the one with the Spirit of His Cause, to the one He wants from His servants﴿ (16:2) Then he said: ﴾Gabriel is the one who descended to the prophets and the Spirit is with them and with the representatives. It does not leave their side. It fits them and guides them from God and that there is no God but God, that Muhammad is the Messenger of God and with both they worshipped God and the creatures worshipped Him and to that belong the hidden ones (Jinn) and the humans and the angels and neither did an angel worship God, nor a prophet, nor a human, nor a hidden one except with the confession that there is no God but God and that Muhammad is the Messenger of God and God did not create any creature except for service.﴿” [Basa’ir-ud-Darajat of As-Saffar, page 483 – 484, hadith 1]

محمد بن عيسى عن عبيد بن أسباط عن علي بن أبي حمزة عن أبي بصير عن محمد بن علي الباقر عليه السلام قال: سألته عن قول الله عز وجل يُنزّل الملائكة بالروح من أمر ربه على من يشاء من عباده فقال جبرئيل الذي نزَل على الأنبياء و الروح تكون معهم ومع الأوصياء لا تفارقهم تفقهم وتسددهم من عند الله وإنه لا إله إلا الله محمد رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم وبهما عبد الله واستعبده الخلق وعلى هذا الجن و الانس والملائكة ولم يعبد الله ملك ولا نبي ولا انسان ولا جان الا بشهادة ان لا اله الا الله وأن محمدا رسول الله وما خلق الله خلقا الا للعبادة

Aban reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “The Friday enjoys a privilege and sanctity. So beware of neglecting or neglecting anything from the worship of God and seeking His favour by doing good and refraining from anything forbidden, for God multiplies in it the benefits and wipes out in it the wrongdoings and increases in it by degrees. He said and remarked that its day is like its night. If you are able to enliven it with prayer and supplication, then do so, for at the beginning of Friday night your Lord descends.” [Al-Kafi of Al-Kulaini, vol. 3, p. 414, hadith 6]

محمد بن يحيى عن عبد الله بن محمد عن علي بن الحكم عن أبان عن جعفر بن محمد الصادق عليه السلام قال: إن للجمعة حقا وحرمة فإياك أن تضيع أو تقصر في شئ من عبادة الله والتقرب إليه بالعمل الصالح وترك المحارم كلها فإن الله يضاعف فيه الحسنات ويمحو فيه السيئات ويرفع فيه الدرجات قال وذكر أن يومه مثل ليلته فإن استطعت أن تحييها بالصلاة والدعاء فافعل فإن ربك يُنزّل في أول ليلة الجمعة

Muhammad Baqir Al-Majlisi writes: “The sixth saying (hadith) is unknown (majhul). His (a.) statement ﴾and noted﴿ appears as if it were an inattention of the transcribers or narrators and was based on his assumption, so by means of reformulation. His (a.) statement ﴾makes descend﴿ is possible in the form of second derivation (yunazzil). Thus, the descent of the angels of mercy is meant or by His descent it is meant the descent of the angels and His mercy in a metaphorical sense and it is possible that it means His descent from the display of majesty and grandeur to the place of pardoning the servants and in favour of the first (yunazzil) is what As-Saduq, God have mercy on him, narrated in Al-Faqih from Ibrahim Ibn Abi Mahmud who said: I said to Ar-Rida (a. ): ﴾O son of the Messenger of God, what do you say about the saying that people narrate about the Messenger of God (s.), namely that he said: “God descends to the lowest heaven every Friday night?”﴿ Then he said: ﴾May God curse those who falsify the words in their places. (5:13) By God, the Messenger of God (s.) did not say this, but merely said: “God makes an angel descend to the lowest heaven every night in the last third and on Friday night at the beginning of the night.” Then He instructs him, whereupon he calls out: “Is there a supplicant that I may bestow upon him? Is there one who repents, that I may accept his repentance? Is there one who asks for forgiveness, that I may forgive him? O seeker of good, approach. O seeker of evil, abstain.” So he continues to call this out until dawn. When dawn breaks, he returns to his place in the kingdom of heaven. This is what my father has narrated to me, from my grandfather, from his fathers, from the Messenger of God (s.).﴿” [Mir’at-ul-Uqul, Vol. 15, page 341]

قال الشيخ محمد باقر المجلسي: الحديث السادس مجهول قوله عليه‌ السلام وذكر كأنه سهو من النساخ أو الرواة وعلى تقديره فهو على سبيل القلب قوله عليه‌ السلام يُنزّل يحتمل أن يكون من باب التفعيل فيكون المراد نزول ملائكة الرحمة أو المراد بنزوله تعالى نزول ملائكته ورحمته مجازا ويمكن أن يكون المراد نزوله من عرض العظمة والجلال إلى مقام التعطف على العباد ويؤيد الأول ما روى الصدوق رحمه الله في الفقيه عن إبراهيم بن أبي محمود قال قلت للرضا عليه‌ السلام يا بن رسول الله ما تقول في الحديث الذي ترويه الناس عن رسول الله صلى‌ الله‌ عليه‌ وآله أنه قال إن الله تبارك وتعالى يَنزِل في كل ليلة جمعة إلى السماء الدنيا فقال عليه‌ السلام لعن الله المحرفين للكلم عن مواضعه والله ما قال رسول الله صلى‌ الله‌ عليه‌ وآله ذلك وإنما قال صلى‌ الله‌ عليه‌ وآله إن الله تبارك وتعالى يُنزّل ملكا إلى السماء الدنيا كل ليلة في الثلث الأخير وليلة الجمعة في أول الليل فيأمره فينادي هل من سائل فأعطيه هل من تائب فأتوب عليه هل من مستغفر فاغفر له يا طالب الخير أقبل ويا طالب الشر أقصر فلا يزال ينادي بهذا حتى يطلع الفجر فإذا طلع الفجر عاد إلى محله من ملكوت السماء حدثني بذلك أبي عن جدي عن آبائه عن رسول الله صلى‌ الله‌ عليه‌ وآله

Sulaiman Ibn Khalid reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “The deeds of the servants are shown to the Messenger of God (s.) every Thursday. When it is the day of Arafah, the Lord descends and this is the word of God: ﴾We turned Our attention, to what they did. So We turned it to scattered dust.﴿” (25:23) Then I said: “My life be sacrificed to you, whose deeds are these?” He said: “The deeds of those who hate us and those who hate our followers.” [Basa’ir-ud-Darajat of As-Saffar, page 446, Hadith 15]

أحمد بن محمد عن علي بن الحكم عن منصور البزرج عن سليمان بن خالد عن جعفر بن محمد الصادق عليه السلام قال: إن اعمال العباد تعرض كل خميس على رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله فإذا كان يوم عرفة هبّط الرب تبارك وتعالى وهو قول الله تبارك وتعالى وقدمنا إلى ما عملوا من عمل فجعلناه هبأ منثورا فقلت: جعلت فداك أعمال من هذه قال: اعمال مبغضينا ومبغضي شيعتنا

Muhammad Baqir Al-Majlisi writes: “The descent of the Lord is a metaphor for the attention to the deeds of the servants or the descent of the angels for it.” [Bihar-ul-Anwar of Al-Majlisi, Vol. 23, page 345.]

قال الشيخ محمد باقر المجلسي: هبوط الرب تعالى كناية عن تعرض لأعمال العباد أو إهباط الملائكة لذلك

Abdullah Ibn Sinan reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “God makes a camel with its humps far apart descend to the earth on the day of Arafah. It puts its thighs on the right and left of the people of Arafat and remains so until when evening comes and the people move out, God appoints two angels for the hills of the Ma’zamain, who call out at the narrow pass, which you see: ﴾O Lord, bestow salvation, bestow salvation.﴿ And the Lord causes to ascend and says: ﴾Amen, Amen, Lord of the worlds.﴿ Therefore you will hardly see one thrown to the ground and one breaking.” [Al-Usul-us-Sitat Ashar of Al-Mahmudi, page 204]

زيد النرسي عن عبد الله بن سنان عن جعفر بن محمد الصادق عليه السلام قال: إن الله يُنزّل في يوم عرفة في أول الزوال إلى الأرض على جمل أفرق يصال بفخذيه أهل عرفات يمينا وشمالا ولا يزال كذلك حتى إذا كان عند المغرب ونفر الناس وكل الله ملكين بجبال المأزمين يناديان عند المضيق الذي رأيت: يا رب سلم سلم والرب يُصعّد إلى السماء ويقول جل جلاله: آمين آمين رب العالمين، فلذلك لا تكاد ترى صريعا ولا كسيرا

Hariz reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “The Lord causes His matter to descend to the lowest heaven every Friday night at the beginning of the night and every night in the last third and before it there is an angel calling out: ﴾Is there a repentant so that his repentance may be accepted? Is there one who asks for forgiveness, that he may be forgiven? Is there one who asks, that his request may be heard? God, give every spender a substitute and every greedy one ruination.﴿ Then when dawn breaks, the cause of the Lord returns to His throne. Then He distributes the provisions among the servants.” Hereupon He said to Fudail ibn Yasar: “O Fudail, your portion is from it and this is the word of God: ﴾Whatever you spend, He replaces it and He is the best of the providers.﴿ (34:39) And His word: ﴾On the day He gathers them all together. Then He says to the angels: “Is it these who used to worship you?” (34:40) Then the angels say: “Praise be to You. You are our near one instead of them. Rather they served the hidden ones (Jinn). The majority of them are believers in them.”﴿ (34:41) [Tafsir-ul-Qumi, Volume 2, page 204]

إبراهيم بن هاشم عن حماد عن حريز عن جعفر بن محمد الصادق عليه السلام قال: إن الرب تبارك وتعالى يُنزّل أمره كل ليلة جمعة إلى السماء الدنيا من أول الليل وفي كل ليلة في الثلث الأخير وأمامه ملك ينادي: هل من تائب يتاب عليه هل من مستغفر فيغفر له هل من سائل فيعطى سؤله اللهم اعط لكل منفق خلفا ولكل ممسك تلفا إلى أن يطلع الفجر فإذا طلع الفجر عاد أمر الرب إلى عرشه فيقسم الأرزاق بين العباد، ثم قال لفضيل بن يسار يا فضيل نصيبك من ذلك وهو قول الله وما أنفقتم من شئ فهو يخلفه وهو خير الرازقين وقوله ويوم يحشرهم جميعا ثم يقول للملائكة أهؤلاء إياكم كانوا يعبدون فتقول الملائكة سبحانك أنت ولينا من دونهم بل كانوا يعبدون الجن أكثرهم بهم مؤمنون
