“You do not let the dead hear and you do not let the deaf hear the call when they turn their backs.” [Ar-Rum 30:52]

Jabir Ibn Yazid reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “The Messenger of God (s.) used to call his companions. For whomever God willed good, He heard and acknowledged that for which he called and for whomever He willed evil, He sealed his heart to that for which he neither heard nor understood and that is the word of God: ﴾Then when they depart from you, they say to those who were given knowledge: “What did he say before?” Those are the ones whose hearts God sealed.﴿ (47:16) And He said: ﴾You do not make the dead hear, and you do not make the deaf hear the call when their backs are turned (30:52) and you do not guide the blind out of their misguidance.﴿” (30:53) [Bihar-ul-Anwar of Al-Majlisi, Volume 2, page 139 – 140, Hadith 60]
