{But no acceptance of repentance for those, who commit evil deeds, until when death comes to one of them, he says: “Now I repent”} [4:18]

My father transmitted to me from Ibn Faḍḍhāl, from Ali ibn ʿUqba, from Abū Abdillah (peace be upon him) who said: ,,[This verse] was revealed in the Qur’an in reference to Zaʿlān [‘Uthman]. He repented where repentance did him no good and it was not accepted from him.” [Bihar al-Anwar, Vol. 30, p. 67, Hadith 35.]
