“Those, who have disbelieved, let them not think, that it is better for them that We grant them respite. We grant them respite, so that they may add more sin to themselves and for them there is a disgraceful punishment.” [Al Imran 3:178]

Muhammad ibn Muslim reported that he asked Imam Al-Baqir (a.): “Tell me about the disbeliever. Is death better for him or is life?” He said: “Death is better for the believer as well as for the disbeliever.” I said: “Why?” He said: “Because God says: ﴾What is with God is better for the pious.﴿ (3:198) And He says: ﴾Let not those who disbelieve think that it is better for them that We grant them respite. We grant them respite, so that they may add more sin to themselves and for them there is a disgraceful punishment.﴿” (3:178) Yunus reported asking him: “Did the Messenger of God (s.) marry his daughter to so-and-so (Uthman)?” He said: “Yes.” I said: “How did he also marry the other one to him?” He said: “He did that. Therefore God revealed: ﴾Let not those who disbelieve think that it is better for them that We grant them respite. We grant them respite so that they may add more sin to themselves and for them there is a disgraceful punishment.﴿” (3:178) [Tafsir-ul-Ayyashi, Volume 1, page 206 – 207]

Muhammad Ibn Hasan At-Tusi writes: “He (the Prophet) married his two daughters, Ruqayyah and Umm Kulthum, to Uthman. When the second daughter died, he said: ﴾If I had a third, I would marry her to him as well.﴿” [Al-Mabsut, Volume 4, page 159]
