Qur’an:

“When they entered into the house of Joseph, he pulled his brother to him. He said: “Me, I am your brother. So do not be grieved because of what they did.” Now when he had provided them with their necessities, he put the drinking vessel in the baggage of his brother. Then a shouter called out: “You of the caravan, you are thieves!” They said, while walking towards them: “What are you missing?” They said: “We are missing the cup of the king. Whoever brings it back, will receive the burden of a camel, and I am the guarantor for it.” [Yusuf 12:69-72]

ولما دخلوا على يوسف آوى إليه أخاه قال إني أنا أخوك فلا تبتئس بما كانوا يعملون فلما جهزهم بجهازهم جعل السقاية في رحل أخيه ثم أذن مؤذن أيتها العير إنكم لسارقون قالوا وأقبلوا عليهم ماذا تفقدون قالوا نفقد صواع الملك ولمن جاء به حمل بعير وأنا به زعيم

Sunnah:

Hisham Ibn Al-Hakam reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said about the verse: “You of the caravan, you are thieves!” (12:70) Said: “Neither did they steal nor did he lie.” [Nur-uth-Thaqalain by Abd-ul-Ali Al-Huwaizi, Volume 2 page 444 Hadith 133]

وباسناده إلى هشام بن الحكم عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام في قول يوسف: أيتها العير انكم لسارقون قال: ما سرقوا وما كذب

Abu Basir reported that Imam Al-Baqir (a.) said: “There is no good to be found in him who has no concealment (taqiyyah). Joseph (a.) already said: “You of the caravan, you are thieves!” (12:70) Whereas they had not stolen it.” [Nur-uth-Thaqalain by Abd-ul-Ali Al-Huwaizi, Volume 2 page 444 Hadith 132]

في كتاب علل الشرايع باسناده إلى أبي بصير قال: سمعت أبا جعفر عليه السلام يقول: لا خير فيمن لا تقية له، ولقد قال يوسف: أيتها العير انكم لسارقون وما سرقوا

Salih ibn Sa’id reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) was asked about the verse: “You of the caravan, you are thieves!” (12:70) He said: “They stole Joseph from his father. Do you not consider his statement towards them when they said: what are you missing?” (12:71) They said: “We miss the cup of the king.” (12:72) But they did not say: “You have stolen the cup of the king.” What was meant by the statement was: ‘You have stolen Joseph from his father.” [Nur-uth-Thaqalain by Abd-ul-Ali Al-Huwaizi, Volume 2 page 444 Hadith 134]

وباسناده إلى صالح بن سعيد عن رجل من أصحابنا عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام قال: سألته عن قول الله عز وجل في يوسف: أيتها العير انكم لسارقون قال: إنهم سرقوا يوسف من أبيه الا ترى أنه قال لهم حين قالوا: ماذا تفقدون قالوا نفقد صواع الملك ولم يقولوا سرقتم صواع الملك، انما عنى انكم سرقتم يوسف من أبيه
