Muhammad ibn Muslim reported that Imam Al-Baqir (a.) said:“Singing is among that for which God promised the Fire.” Whereupon he recited this verse: ﴾And among the people is he, who purchase distracting speech, to mislead from the Way of God while being ignorant and to ridicule him. For those, there is a humiliating punishment.﴿ (31:6) [Al-Wasa’il of Al-Amili, Volume 17, page 304 – 305, Hadith 6]

محمد بن مسلم عن محمد بن علي الباقر عليه السلام قال: الغناء مما وعد الله عليه النار وتلا هذه الآية ومن الناس من يشتري لهو الحديث ليضل عن سبيل الله بغير علم ويتخذها هزوا أولئك لهم عذاب مهين

Ali Ibn Ja’far reported that he asked Imam Al-Kazim (a.): “What is the matter with singing? Is it okay on the occasion of the breaking of the fast and the Feast of Sacrifice and for joy?” He said: “There is no problem in it, as long as disobedience has not been done with it.” [Al-Wasa’il of Al-Amili, Volume 17, Page 122, Hadith 5]

علي بن جعفر عن موسى بن جعفر الكاظم عليه السلام قال: سألته عن الغناء هل يصلح في الفطر والأضحى والفرح قال: لا بأس به ما لم يعص به


Husain ibn Muhammad reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “When the night arrived, during which Ali (a.) performed intercourse with Fatimah (a.), the Messenger of God (s.) heard the beating of a tambourine and asked: ﴾What is this?﴿ Umm Salamah replied: ﴾O Messenger of God, this is Asma’, the daughter of Umais, beating the tambourine. She wanted to please Fatimah so that she would not think that when her mother died, she had no one to stand up for her.﴿ At this, the Messenger of God (s.) raised his hand up to heaven. Then he said: ﴾O God, give Asma’, the daughter of Umais, a joy like the joy she gave to my daughter!﴿ Then he asked for her and said: ﴾O Asma’, what do you speak when you beat the tambourine?﴿ She said: ﴾O Messenger of God, we do not know what we are speaking. I only wanted to please Fatimah.﴿ He said: ﴾Do not speak chatter or gossip.﴿” [Al-Mustadrak of An-Nuri, Volume 14, Page 305, Hadith 12]

حسين بن محمد عن جعفر بن محمد الصادق عليه السلام قال: لما كان في الليلة التي بنى فيها علي بفاطمة عليهما السلام سمع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله ضرب الدف فقال: ما هذا؟ فقالت أُم سلمة: يا رسول الله هذه أسماء بنت عميس تضرب الدف أرادت أن تفرح فاطمة لئلا ترى أنه لما ماتت أُمها لم تجد من يقوم لها فرفع رسول الله صلّى الله عليه وآله يده إلى السماء ثم قال: اللهم ادخل على أسماء بنت عميس السرور كما فرحت ابنتي ثم دعا بها فقال: يا أسماء ما تقولون إذا نقرتن الدف؟ فقالت: يا رسول الله ما ندري ما نقول في ذلك؟ وإنما أردت فرحها قال: فلا تقولوا هجرا وهذرا


Al-Husain (a.) reported that Imam Ali (a.) said: “The Messenger of God (s.) passed by the Zanzibar people, while they were beating a drum and singing, but when they saw the Messenger (s.), they became silent. Therefore, the Messenger of God (s.) said: ﴾O sons of Arfadah, act according to that, in which you found yourselves, so that the Jews may know that our religion provides freedom.﴿” [Al-Ja’fariyyat of Isma’il Ibn Musa, page 317, hadith 1190]

الحسين عليه السلام عن علي بن أبي طالب عليه السلام قال: إن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله مر على قوم من الزنج وهم يضربون بطبول لهم ويغنون فلما نظروا إلى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله سكتوا فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: خذوا بني أرفدة ما كنتم فيه ليعلم الهيود أن ديننا في فسحة


Hasan ibn Ali reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a. ) said: “Everything that the servants learns or teach others from the types of works, such as writing, arithmetic, trade, blacksmithing, saddlery, construction, weaving, bleaching, tailoring, making various figures, as long as this did not resemble something that has a spirit and the various types of instruments, which the servants desire and from which they benefit and by which they remain steadfast and in which lies the fulfillment of all their needs, this is permitted to be done and taught and used for themselves and others, even if by this work and instrument it may encourage corruption and disobedience and serve as an aid against both truth and falsehood. So there is no problem in the works and teaching of it.” [Al-Wasa’il of Al-Amili, Volume 17, Page 85, Hadith 1]

عن الحسن بن علي عن الإمام الصادق عليه السلام قال: فكلما يتعلم العباد أو يعلمون غيرهم من اصناف الصناعات مثل الكتابة والحساب والتجارة والصياغة والسراجة والبناء والحياكة والقصارة والخياطة وصنعة صنوف التصاوير ما لم يكن مثل الروحاني وأنواع صنوف الالات التى يحتاج إليها العباد منها منافعهم وبها قوامهم وفيها بلغة جميع حوائجهم فحلال فعله وتعليمه والعمل به وفيه لنفسه أو لغيره، وإن كانت تلك الصناعة وتلك الآلة قد يستعان بها على وجوه الفساد ووجوه المعاصي وتكون معونة على الحق والباطل فلا بأس بصناعته وتعليمه


Sulaiman Ibn Mihran reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “Frowned upon (Makruh) are those means of distractions (Lahw) that distract from the remembrance of God, such as singing and playing the strings.” [Bihar-ul-Anwar of Al-Majlisi, Volume 10 Page 229 Hadith 1]

عن سليمان بن مهران عن الإمام الصادق عليه السلام قال: والملاهي التي تصد عن ذكر الله تبارك وتعالى مكروهة، كالغناء وضرب الأوتار
