Muqatil Ibn Sulaiman reported, that he asked Imam As-Sadiq (a.): ,,How tall was Adam (a.) when he was brought down to the earth and how tall was Eve (a.)?” He said: ,,We discovered, that in the book of Ali Ibn Abi Talib (a.) it is stated, that when God brought Adam (a.) and his wife (a.) down to the earth, his feet were in the turning point of Safa and his head was below the horizon of the sky and he complained before God how the heat of the sun troubled him. Therefore, God revealed to Gabriel (a.) that Adam (a.) was complaining how the heat of the sun was plaguing him. Thereupon, He made him a bit shorter and bestowed upon him a height of seventy cubits with his cubit and He also made Eve (a.) a bit shorter and bestowed upon her a height of thirty-five cubits with her cubit.” [Al-Kafi of Al-Kulaini, Volume 8, page 126 – 127, Hadith 308]

علي بن إبراهيم، عن أبيه عن الحسن بن محبوب عن مقاتل بن سليمان قال: سألت أبا عبد الله عليه السلام كم كان طول آدم عليه السلام حيث هبط به إلى الأرض وكم كان طول حواء؟ قال: وجدنا في كتاب علي بن أبي طالب عليه السلام أن الله عز وجل لما أهبط آدم وزوجته حواء عليهما السلام إلى الأرض كانت رجلاه بثنية الصفا ورأسه دون أفق السماء وإنه شكا إلى الله ما يصيبه من حر الشمس فأوحى الله عز وجل إلى جبرئيل عليه السلام أن آدم قد شكا ما يصيبه من حر الشمس فأغمزه غمزة وصير طوله سبعين ذراعا بذراعه وأغمز حواء، غمزة فيصير طولها خمسة وثلاثين ذراعا بذراعها

Muhammad Baqir Al-Majlisi writes: ,,It is known, that our body parts at the present time are not equal to the size that the body parts of Adam (a.) have and that our body size is not equal to the body size of Adam (a.).” [Mir’at-ul-Uqul, volume 26, page 172]

قال الشيخ محمد باقر المجلسي: ومن المعلوم أن أعضاءنا الآن ليست بقدر أعضاء آدم عليه‌ السلام وقامتنا ليست كقامته عليه‌ السلام

بالإسناد إلى الصدوق بإسناده عن ابن محبوب عن مقاتل بن سليمان قال: سألت أبا عبد الله صلوات الله عليه: كم كان طول آدم صلوات الله عليه حين أهبط به إلى الأرض وكم كان طول حوا عليها السلام؟ قال: وجدنا في كتاب علي عليه الصلاة والسلام أن الله تعالى لما أهبط آدم صلوات الله عليه وزوجته عليها السلام إلى الأرض كان رجلاه على ثنية الصفا ورأسه دون أفق السماء وأنه شكا إلى الله ما يصيبه من حر الشمس فصير طوله سبعين ذراعا بذراعه وجعل طول حوا خمسة وثلاثين ذراعا بذراعها

Muhammad Salih Al-Mazandarani writes: ,,Muslim Ibn Hajjaj narrated that Prophet Muhammad (s.) said: ﴾God created Adam according to His form and his height was sixty cubits.﴿ There is no doubt, that by the cubit in his saying is meant the cubit in the measure of his time, which is why it is necessary to assume no change into an unknown measure and this is supported, by what we mentioned and as for his saying ﴾sixty cubits﴿, it is conceivable that the narrator was mistaken and confused seventy with sixty.” [Sharh-ul-Usul, Volume 12, page 300]

قال المولى محمد صالح المازندراني: وفي رواية مسلم عن النبي عليه السلام قال خلق الله آدم على صورته طوله ستون ذراعا ولا شك أن المراد بالذراع في حديثه الذراع المعهود في عصره صلى الله عليه وآله لئلا يلزم الحوالة على المجهول وهو مؤيد لما ذكرناه وأما قوله ستون ذرعا فيمكن أن يكون من سهو الراوي وتبديل السبعين بالستين

وعن علي بن إبراهيم عن أبيه عن الحسن بن محبوب عن مقاتل بن سليمان قال: سألت أبا عبد الله عليه الصلاة والسلام كم كان طول آدم حين هبط به إلى الأرض وكم كان طول حواء؟ فقال: وجدنا في كتاب علي عليه الصلاة والسلام ان الله تعالى لما اهبط آدم وزوجته حواء إلى الأرض كانت رجلاه بثنية الصفا ورأسه دون أفق السماء. وانه شكا إلى الله ما يصيبه من حر الشمس، فأوحى الله إلى جبرئيل ان آدم شكا إلي ما يصيبه من حر الشمس فاغمزه غمزة وصير طوله سبعين ذراعا بذراعه، واغمز حواء فصير طولها خمسة وثلاثين ذراعا بذراعها

Muhammad Baqir Al-Majlisi writes: ,,Should one say: ﴾What was mentioned about the seventy cubits and foot cannot be reconciled with the tradition of the Prophet (s.) in which he said: Your father was as tall as a long palm tree with sixty cubits.﴿ Then I say: ﴾You can answer it in such a way, that the sixty cubits refers to the palm tree and not to Adam (a.), because that gives the wording and the meaning more accurately, since the term is equivalent to tall and palm trees usually do not grow taller than sixty cubits.﴿” [Mir’at-ul-Uqul, volume 26, page 174]

قال الشيخ محمد باقر المجلسي: فإن قلت ما ذكرت من السبعين من الأذرع والأقدام ينافي ما روي عن النبي صلى‌الله‌ عليه‌ وآله أنه قال إن أباكم كان طوالا كالنخلة السحوق ستين ذراعا قلت يمكن الجواب بأن ستين ذراعا راجع إلى النخلة لا إلى آدم عليه‌ السلام فإنه أقرب لفظا ومعنى من حيث أن السحوق هي الطويلة ونهاية طولها لا يتجاوز الستين غالبا
