Question:

The Bible mentions prophets, who appeared after the ascension of Jesus (a.). Were there prophets between Jesus (a.) and Muhammad (s.)?

Ya’qub Ibn Shu’aib reported, that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: ,,There were 500 years between Jesus (a.) and Muhammad (s.). From that 250 years had passed without an apparent prophet or knowledgeable.” I said: ,,What were they?” He said: ,,They were those, who held on to the faith of Jesus (a.).” I said: ,,What were they?” He said: ,,They were believers and the earth does not remain, without a knowledgeable being on it.” [Bihar-ul-Anwar of Al-Majlisi, Volume 23 Page 33 Hadith 54]

أبي، عن محمد العطار، عن ابن يزيد، عن ابن أبي عمير، عن سعد ابن أبي خلف، عن يعقوب بن شعيب، عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام قال: كان بين عيسى وبين محمد عليه وآله الصلاة والسلام خمسمائة عام منها مائتان وخمسون عاما ليس فيها نبي ولا عالم ظاهر، قلت: فما كانوا؟ قال: كانوا مستمسكين بدين عيسى عليه السلام، قلت: فما كانوا؟ قال: مؤمنين ثم قال عليه السلام: ولا تكون الارض إلا وفيها عالم

Muhammad ibn Muslim reported, that Imam Al-Baqir (a.) said: ,,The earth does not remain without an apparent or hidden Imam.” [Al-Imamah of Al-Qummi, page 162 Hadith 14]

الحميري عن السندي بن محمد عن العلاء بن رزين عن محمد بن مسلم عن أبي جعفر عليه السلام قال: لا تبقى الأرض بغير إمام ظاهر أو باطن

Mu’awiyah Ibn Ammar reported, that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: ,,People remained after Jesus, the son of Mary (a.), for 250 years without an apparent proof (of God).” [Kamal-ud-Din of As-Saduq, Volume 1 page 160 Hadith 19]

حدثنا محمد بن الحسن بن أحمد بن الوليد رضي الله عنه قال: حدثنا محمد ابن الحسن الصفار، وسعد بن عبد الله جميعا، عن أيوب بن نوح، عن عبد الله بن المغيرة، عن سعد بن أبي خلف، عن معاوية بن عمار قال: قال أبو عبد الله عليه السلام: بقي الناس بعد عيسى بن مريم عليه السلام خمسين ومائتي سنة بلا حجة ظاهرة

Al-Hasan Ibn Ali reported, that Imam Ar-Rida (a.) said: ,,Those, who possesed the determination (46:35), were called as the owners of the determination, because they brought the legislations and determinations. For this reason every prophet after Noah (a.) kept his legislation and path and followed his book until the time of Abraham, the close friend of God (a.) and every prophet, who stayed in the time of Abraham (a.) and after him kept his legislation and path and followed his book until the time of Moses (a.) and every prophet, who stayed in the time of Moses (a.) and after him, kept his legislation and his path and followed his book until the time of Jesus (a.) and every prophet, who stayed in the time of Jesus (a.) and after him, adhered to his path and legislation and followed his book until the time of our Prophet Muhammad (s.) and these are the owners of determination and the best prophets and messengers (a.). Neither will the legislation of Muhammad (s.) be abrogated until the Last Day, nor will anyone after him be a prophet until the Last Day. So whoever claims prophethood after him or brings a book after the Qur’an, his blood is given to anyone who hears it from him.” [Uyun-ul-Akhbar of As-Saduq, Volume 2 page 86 – 87 Hadith 13]

حدثنا محمد بن إبراهيم بن إسحاق الطالقاني رضي الله عنه قال: حدثنا أحمد بن محمد بن سعيد الكوفي الهمداني قال: حدثنا علي بن الحسن بن علي بن فضال عن أبيه، عن أبي الحسن الرضا عليه السلام قال: إنما سمي أولوا العزم أولي العزم لانهم كانوا أصحاب الشرائع والعزائم وذلك أن كل نبي بعد نوح عليه السلام كان شريعته ومنهاجه وتابعا لكتابه إلى زمن إبراهيم الخليل عليه السلام، وكل نبي كان في أيام إبراهيم وبعده كان على شريعته ومنهاجه وتابعا لكتابه إلى زمن موسى عليه السلام، وكل نبي كان في زمن موسى وبعده كان على شريعة موسى ومنهاجه وتابعا لكتابه إلى أيام عيسى عليه السلام وكل نبي كان في أيام عيسى عليه السلام وبعده كان على منهاج عيسى وشريعته وتابعا لكتابه إلى زمن نبينا محمد صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم فهؤلاء الخمسة أولوا العزم فهم أفضل الانبياء والرسل والرسل عليهم السلام وشريعة محمد صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم لا تنسخ إلى يوم القيامة ولا نبي بعده إلى يوم القيامة فمن إدعى بعده نبوة أو أتى بعد القرآن بكتاب فدمه مباح لكل من سمع ذلك منه
