Question:

Has the Qur’an commanded that one should remain single (24:33) and fast if one cannot afford a permanent marriage and thereby leaving the temporary marriage?

Answer:

No, he did not.

Muhammad Ibn Jamhur reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) mentioned the verse: “What God opens to the people in mercy, no one can withold it.” (35:2) He said: “This includes the temporary partnership (Mut’ah).” Huraiz reported that Imam As-Sadiq ( a. ) read: Those shall remain chaste, for whom no temporary partnership is given, until God makes them rich out of His grace.” (24:33) He said: “That is exactly how it was revealed.” Sa’d Ibn Abdillah reported that the Imams Al-Baqir (a.) and As-Sadiq (a.) were reading: “To those of them whom you have enjoyed for a limited time, you shall give their due compensation.” (4:24) [Mustadrak-ul-Wasa’il by Al-Mirza An-Nuri, Volume 14, page 448]
