Who is entitled to the leadership?

Hisham Ibn Salim reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “When Shuraih was appointed as a judge by the Commander of the Faithful (a.), he obliged him not to make a judgment until he had presented it to him.” [Al-Kafi of Al-Kulaini, Volume 7 Page 407 Hadith 3]

علي بن إبراهيم، عن أبيه، عن ابن أبي عمير، عن هشام بن سالم، عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام قال: لما ولى أمير المؤمنين صلوات الله عليه شريحا القضاء اشترط عليه أن لا ينفذ القضاء حتى يعرضه عليه

Ja’far As-Sadiq (a.) reported that Imam Ali (a.) said to Shuraih: “O Shuraih, you have taken a position, which no one occupies, except for a prophet or the representative of a prophet or a miserable creature.” [Al-Kafi of Al-Kulaini, Volume 7 Page 406 Hadith 2]

محمد بن يحيى، عن محمد بن أحمد، عن يعقوب بن يزيد، عن يحيى بن المبارك، عن عبد الله بن جبلة، عن أبي جميلة، عن إسحاق بن عمار، عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام قال: قال أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام لشريح: يا شريح قد جلست مجلسا لا يجلسه إلا نبي أو وصي نبي أو شقي

Sulaiman Ibn Khalid reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “Woe to you regarding the authority, for no one seeks it except that he perishes!” I said: “We are perished, for there is no one among us who does not love when he is mentioned, asked, and taken (knowledge) of.” He said: “It is not the way you take it to mean, it is that you give such a position to a man without proof, that you believe everything he says and call people to his word.” [Wasa’il-ush-Shi’ah by Al-Hurr Al-Amili, Volume 27 Page 129 Hadith 15]

عن أبيه، عن سعد بن عبد الله، عن محمد بن الحسين، عن محمد بن خالد، عن أخيه سفيان بن خالد قال: قال أبو عبد الله عليه السلام: إياك والرياسة فما طلبها أحد إلا هلك، فقلت: قد هلكنا إذا ليس أحد منا إلا وهو يحب أن يذكر ويقصد ويؤخذ عنه، فقال: ليس حيث تذهب، إنما ذلك أن تنصب رجلا دون الحجة فتصدقه في كل ما قال وتدعو الناس إلى قوله

Al-Fudail reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “Whoever claims the leadership, although he has not been granted the legitimacy to do so, is an infidel (Kafir).” [Al-Kafi of Al-Kulaini, Volume 1 Page 372 Hadith 2]

محمد بن يحيى، عن عبد الله بن محمد بن عيسى، عن علي بن الحكم، عن أبان عن الفضيل، عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام قال: من ادعى الإمامة وليس من أهلها فهو كافر

Talhah Ibn Zaid reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “Whoever shared the leadership of a leader, who is from God, with someone whose leadership is not from God, he is an idolater (Mushrik).” [Al-Kafi of Al-Kulaini, Volume 1 Page 373 Hadith 6]

محمد بن يحيى، عن محمد بن الحسين، عن محمد بن سنان، عن طلحة بن زيد عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام قال: من أشرك مع إمام إمامته من عند الله من ليست إمامته من الله كان مشركا بالله

Al-Walid Ibn Sabih reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “No one claims this matter (leadership) except for those, who have been legitimized to do so, except that God will cut off his life.” [Al-Kafi of Al-Kulaini, Volume 1 Page 373 Hadith 5]

محمد بن يحيى، عن أحمد بن محمد، عن ابن سنان، عن يحيى أخي أديم، عن الوليد بن صبيح قال: سمعت أبا عبد الله يقول إن هذا الامر لا يدعيه غير صاحبه إلا تبرا لله عمره

Sawrah Ibn Kulaib reported that he asked Imam Al-Baqir (a.) about the verse: “On the day of resurrection you will see the faces of those who lied about God turning black.” (39:60) He said: “The one who says: “I am a leader” Although he is not a leader.” I said: “Even if he is a descendant of Ali (a.)? He said: “Even if he is a descendant of Ali (a.)” I said: “Even if he is the son of Ali Ibn Abi Talib (a.)?” He said: “Even if he is so” [Al-Kafi of Al-Kulaini, volume 1 page 372 Hadith 1]

Husain Ibn Mukhtar reported that he said to Imam As-Sadiq (a.): “May my life be sacrificed to you, what about this: “On the day of resurrection you will see the faces of those who lied about God becoming black.” (39:60) He said: “Anyone who claims to be a leader, even though he is not a leader.” I said: “Even if he is a descendant of Fatimah (a.) and Ali (a.)?” He said:”Even if he is a descendant of Fatimah (a.) and Ali (a.).” [Al-Kafi of Al-Kulaini, volume 1 page 372 Hadith 3]

الحسين بن محمد، عن معلى بن محمد، عن محمد بن جمهور، عن عبد الله بن عبد الرحمن، عن الحسين بن المختار قال: قلت لأبي عبد الله عليه السلام: جعلت فداك ويوم القيامة ترى الذين كذبوا على الله؟ قال: كل من زعم أنه إمام وليس بإمام، قلت: وإن كان فاطميا علويا؟ قال وإن كان فاطميا علويا

Dawud Al-Hammar reported from Ibn Abi Ya’fur that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “With Three God will not speak on the day of resurrection and neither will he purify them and they expect a painful punishment: “He who claims the authority of God, that he is not entitled to, he who denies a leader of God and he who claims that the two (Abu Bakr and Umar) have a share in Islam.”[Al-Kafi of Al-Kulaini, Volume 1 Page 373 Hadith 4]

عدة من أصحابنا، عن أحمد بن محمد، عن الوشاء، عن داود الحمار، عن ابن أبي يعفور، عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام قال: سمعته يقول: ثلاثة لا يكلمهم الله يوم القيامة ولا يزكيهم ولهم عذاب أليم: من ادعى إمامة من الله ليست له، ومن جحد إماما من الله، ومن زعم أن لهما (أبو بكر وعمر) في الاسلام نصيبا

Ali Ibn Maimun reported from Ibn Abi Ya’fur that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “On the day of judgement with three God will not speak neither purify them and they expect a painful punishment: “He who claims the authority of God, to which he is not legitimized to it, he who denies a leader of God and he who claims that the two (Abu Bakr and Umar) have a share in Islam.”[Al-Kafi of Al-Kulaini, Volume 1 Page 374 Hadith 12]
