Jesus pardoned a lewd person

Question:

According to Islam, did Jesus (a.) forgive a lewd person?

Answer:

Muhammad Ibn Ali reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “A man came to Jesus, the son of Mary (a.) and said: “O Spirit of God, I committed adultery, so purify me!” Therefore Jesus (a.) ordered that among the people there should be proclaimed: “No one remains but that he come forth to purify him.” When they had gathered and the man went into a pit, the man shouted: “No one punishes me if he is in debt to God”. Then all the people went away except John (a.) and Jesus (a.). John (a.) approached him and said:”O you who sinned, give me a beautiful reminder!” He said: “Leave no space between your soul and its inclination, so that it may seize you.” He said: “Give me more!” He said: “Do not expose a sinner with a sin!” He said: “Give me more.” He said: “Do not fall into anger!” He said: “That is enough.” [Man La Yahduruh-ul-Faqih of As-Saduq, volume 4 page 33 – 34 Hadith 5019]

عن محمد بن علي عن جعفر بن محمد الصادق عليهما السلام أنه قال: إن رجلا جاء إلى عيسى بن مريم عليه السلام فقال له: يا روح الله إني زنيت فطهرني فأمر عيسى عليه السلام أن ينادى في الناس لا يبقى أحد إلا خرج لتطهير فلان فلما اجتمع واجتمعوا وصار الرجل في الحفرة نادى الرجل لا يحدني من لله في جنبه حد، فانصرف الناس كلهم إلا يحيى وعيسى عليهما السلام فدنا منه يحيى عليه السلام فقال له: يا مذنب عظني فقال له: لا تخلين بين نفسك وبين هواها فترديك، قال: ردني قال: لا تعيرن خاطئا خطيئة قال: زدني، قال: لا تغضب، قال حسبي

Muhammad Ibn Al-Mahdi reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “A man came to Jesus (a.) and said: “O Spirit of God, I committed adultery, so purify me!” So Jesus (a.) ordered that the people should come forth to purify him. When the people were around, they dug him a pit and put the short man in it. Jesus (a.) said: “Whoever is in debt to God is not entitled to punish this person.” Then everyone disappeared except John (a.) and Jesus (a.). John (a.) stood before the short man and he said: “Give me a beautiful reminder.” He said: “Do not abandon your soul to its desires, otherwise you will belong to those who perish.” Then he said: “Give me more!” He said: “Do not degrade him who commits a sin.” [Fa’tabiru Ya Uli Al-Absar of Abu Ar-Rida Ash-Shirazi, page 49]

عن محمد بن المهدي عن جعفر بن محمد الصادق عليهما السلام أنه قال: جاء رجل إلى عيسى عليه السلام وقال: يا روح الله أنا زنيت فطهرني بحد الله فأمر عيسى عليه السلام أن يحضر الناس ليطهروه، فلما حضر الناس حفروا حفرة، ووضعوا الرجل المقصر فيها. فقال عيسى عليه السلام: كل من في ذمته حد إلهي لا ينبغي أن يحد هذا الشخص، فرجعوا كلهم إلا يحيى وعيسى عليهما السلام فجاء يحيى عليه السلام إلى الرجل المقصر وقال عظني قال لا تترك نفسك لشهواتها فتكون من الهالكين فقال له زدني قال: لا تلم من أذنب ذنبا

Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to him a woman who had been caught in adultery, and placed her in the middle and said to him: “Master, this woman was caught in adultery during the act. But in the law Moses commanded us that such should be stoned. What do you say now?” But they said this to try him, so that they could accuse him. But Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the earth. So when they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them: “He who is without sin among you, let him throw the first stone at her. And he bent down again and wrote on the earth. But when they heard this, they went out, convicted of their conscience, one by one, from the elders to the least; and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the middle. Then Jesus rose up, and seeing no one but the woman, he said to her: “Woman, where are those who accused you? Has no one condemned you? She said: “Nobody, Lord!” Jesus said to her: “Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more.” [John 8:1-11]

وأما يسوع فذهب إلى جبل الزيتون وعند الفجر عاد إلى الهيكل, فاجتمع حوله جمهور الشعب فجلس يعلمهم وأحضر إليه معلمو الشريعة والفر يسيون امرأة ضبطت تزني, وأوقفوها في الوسط وقالوا له: يا معلم, هذه المرأة ضبطت وهي تزني وقد أوصانا موسى في شريعته بإعدام أمثالها رجما بالحجارة, فما قولك أنت سألوه ذلك لكي يحرجوه فيجدوا تهمة يحاكمونه بها. أما هو فانحنى وبدأ يكتب بإصبعه على الأرض ولكنهم ألحوا عليه بالسؤال, فاعتدل وقال لهم: من كان منكم بلا خطيئة فليرمها أولا بحجر ثم انحنى وعاد يكتب على الأرض فلما سمعوا هذا الكلام انسحبوا جميعا واحدا تلو الآخر ابتداء من الشيوخ. وبقي يسوع وحده, والمرأة واقفة في مكانها فاعتدل وقال لها: أين هم أيتها المرأة? ألم يحكم عليك أحد منهم أجابت: لا أحد يا سيد فقال لها: وأنا لا أحكم عليك. اذهبي ولا تعودي تخطئين
