Successors of the Prophet are the narrators of his sayings

Do the followers of the prophet (a.) tell their opinion or his sayings?

Answer:

Ali Ibn Abi Talib (a.) reported that the Prophet Muhammad (s.) said three times: “God have mercy on my successors!” Then they said: “O Messenger of God, who are your successors?” He said: “Those who follow my saying (Hadith) and custom (Sunnah) and then teach them to my community.” [Bihar-ul-Anwar of Al-Majlisi, Volume 2, page 144 Hadith 3]

أمالي الصدوق: ابن إدريس، عن أبيه، عن الأشعري، عن محمد بن حسان الرازي، عن محمد بن علي، عن عيسى بن عبد الله العلوي العمري، عن آبائه، عن علي عليه السلام قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: اللهم ارحم خلفائي – ثلاثا – قيل: يا رسول الله ومن خلفاؤك؟ قال: الذين يتبعون حديثي وسنتي ثم يعلمونها أمتي

Ali Ibn Abi Talib (a.) reported that the Prophet Muhammad (s.) said three times: “God, have mercy on my successors!” They said to him: “O Messenger of God, who is meant by your successors?” He said: “Those who come after me and narrate my sayings (Hadith) and my custom (Sunnah), after which they will hand them over to the people after me.” [Bihar-ul-Anwar of Al-Majlisi, Volume 2, page 144 Hadith 4]

عيون أخبار الرضا عليه الصلاة والسلام بالأسانيد الثلاثة عن الرضا، عن آبائه عليهم السلام قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: اللهم ارحم خلفائي – ثلاث مرات – قيل له: يا رسول الله ومن خلفاؤك؟ قال: الذين يأتون من بعدي ويروون أحاديثي وسنتي فيسلمونها الناس من بعدي

معاني الأخبار: أبي، عن علي، عن أبيه، عن النوفلي، عن علي بن داود اليعقوبي، عن عيسى بن عبد الله بن عمر بن علي بن أبي طالب، عن أبيه، عن جده، عن علي عليه السلام قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: اللهم ارحم خلفائي اللهم ارحم خلفائي اللهم ارحم خلفائي. قيل: يا رسول الله ومن خلفاؤك؟ قال: الذين يأتون من بعدي يروون حديثي وسنتي

Abdullah Ibn Abbas reported that the Prophet Muhammad (s.) said: “My successors and representatives and proofs of God for His creation after me are twelve. The first of them is my brother and the last of them is my son.” They said: “O Messenger of God, who is your brother?” He said: “Ali, the son of Abu Talib.” They said: “And who is your son?” He said: “The Mahdi, who will fill this earth with justice and righteousness as it was previously dominated by oppression and injustice. By Him, Who sent me as a prophet with the truth, if only one day would remain of this world, then God would prolong this day to the extent that my rightly guided Son (Mahdi) would appear in it and then the Spirit of God, Jesus, the Son of Mary (a.), would descend, so that he would establish prayer behind him and the earth would shine in the light of its Lord and his Rule would reach the East and the West.” [Bihar-ul-Anwar of Al-Majlisi, Vol. 51 page 71 Hadith 12]
إكمال الدين: ابن مسرور، عن ابن عامر، عن المعلى، عن جعفر بن سليمان، عن عبد الله بن الحكم، عن أبيه، عن سعيد بن جبير، عن ابن عباس قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: إن خلفائي وأوصيائي وحجج الله على الخلق بعدي اثنا عشر أولهم أخي وآخرهم ولدي وقيل: يا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله ومن أخوك؟ قال: علي بن أبي طالب قيل فمن ولدك؟ قال: المهدي يملاها قسطا وعدلا كما ملئت جورا وظلما والذي بعثني بالحق نبيا لو لم يبق من الدنيا إلا يوم واحد لأطال الله ذلك اليوم حتى يخرج فيه ولدي المهدي فينزل روح الله عيسى بن مريم عليه السلام فيصلي خلفه وتشرق الأرض بنور ربها ويبلغ سلطانه المشرق والمغرب
