Amount of bowings in additional prayer

Question:

How many prayer units do you do in a voluntary additional prayer?

Answer:

Abu Basir reported that Imam Al-Baqir (a.) said: “Seperate between each two Rak’ah of your additional prayers (Nawafil) with the greeting of peace (Taslim).” [Al-Wasa’il of Al-Amili, volume 4 page 63 Hadith 3]

عن أبي بصير عن الإمام الباقر عليه السلام قال: وافصل بين كلّ ركعتين من نوافلك بالتسليم

Abu Basir reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “The end of prayer is the greeting of peace (Taslim).” [Al-Wasa’il of Al-Amili, volume 6 page 416 Hadith 4]

عن أبي بصير عن الإمام الصادق عليه السلام قال: فان آخر الصلاة التسليم

Ali Ibn Ja’far (a.) reported that he asked Imam Al-Kazim (a.): “What about a person who does the additional prayer (Nafilah)? Is it all right for them to pray four Rak’ats without the Taslim between them?” He said: “No, only that between every two bowings (Rak’ah) they will give the greeting of peace (Taslim).” [Al-Wasa’il of Al-Amili, volume 4 page 63 Hadith 2]

علي بن جعفر عن الإمام الكاظم عليه السلام قال: سألته عن الرجل يصلّي النافلة أيصلح له أن يصلّي أربع ركعات لا يسلّم بينهنّ؟ قال: لا إلاّ يسلّم بين كلّ ركعتين

Abu Basir reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “The opening of the prayer is the washing (Wudu’) and his consecration is the expression of greatness (Takbir) and the detachment from it is the greeting of peace (Taslim).” [Al-Wasa’il of Al-Amili, Volume 6 Page 417 Hadith 8]
