Bahrani rejects classifications

Question:

Did Yusuf Al-Bahrani reject the classification of chains of transmission?

Answer:

Yusuf Ibn Ahmad Al-Bahrani writes: “There is no need to use their classifications, because the Imams (a.) have commanded us to compare the doubtful reports with the Book of God and the Sunnah and accept what agrees with them and reject what contradicts them. Therefore, the answer regarding the difference between the report of the truthful and the liar lies in following it, and that is quite sufficient, considering what they have instructed us to do. There is no doubt that one is much more likely to obey the Imams (a.) than to follow them (the classifiers).” [Al-Hada’iq-un-Nadirah Fi Ahkam Al-Itrah At-Tahirah, Volume 1 Page 16]

قال شيخ الإسلام يوسف بن أحمد البحراني رضي الله عنه: انه لا ضرورة تلجئ إلى اصطلاحهم، لأنهم عليهم السلام قد أمرونا بعرض ما شك فيه من الأخبار على الكتاب والسنة فيؤخذ بما وافقهما ويطرح ما خالفهما، فالواجب في تمييز الخبر الصادق من الكاذب مراعاة ذلك، وفيه غنية عما تكلفوه، ولا ريب أن اتباع الأئمة عليهم السلام أولى من اتباعهم
