Face of God in paradise?

Question:

One of the innovators made the claim that according to the Imam (a.) God has a face that can be seen in paradise. Is this true?

The lover of Umar has lied!

Murazim reported that Imam Ja’far As-Sadiq (a.) said: “To prostrate in gratitude is a duty for anyone who submits himself completely. By doing so, your prayer will be completed and you will make your Lord satisfied and make the angels admire you. When the servant prostrates himself out of gratitude, the exalted and blessed Lord opens the separation between the servant and the angels, whereupon He says: “O My angels, look at My servant! He approaches Me and keeps My Covenant. Then he prostrates himself for Me out of gratitude for what I have pardoned him with. O My angels, what is his due with Me?” The angels say: “O our Lord, Your mercy.” Then the Lord says: “What is his due after that?” The angels say: “O our Lord, the garden of Your paradise.” Then the Lord says: “After that?” The angels say: “A great abundance.” Then the Lord says: “After that?” Thus, nothing good remains but for the angels to name it. Then the Lord says: “O my angels, what after that?” The angels say: “O our Lord, we have no knowledge of it.” Thereupon God says: “I will repay his gratitude just as He has repayed me, and will meet him with My favor and show him My mercy.” As-Saduq reports about Ahmad Ibn Abi Abdillah similar things except that God says: “And show him My face.” [Wasa’il-ush-Shi’ah of Al-Hurr Al-Amili, Volume 7 Page 6-7 Hadith 8564]

محمد بن الحسن باسناده عن أحمد بن أبي عبد الله، عن أبيه، عن محمد بن أبي عمير عن حريز، عن مرازم، عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام قال: سجدة الشكر واجبة على كل مسلم، تتم بها صلاتك، وترضي بها ربك، وتعجب الملائكة منك، وإن العبد إذا صلى ثم سجد سجدة الشكر فتح الرب تبارك وتعالى الحجاب بين العبد وبين الملائكة فيقول: يا ملائكتي انظروا إلى عبدي، أدى قربتي وأتم عهدي، ثم سجد لي شكرا على ما أنعمت به عليه، ملائكتي، ماذا له عندي؟ قال: فتقول الملائكة: يا ربنا رحمتك، ثم يقول الرب تبارك وتعالى: ثم ماذا له؟ فتقول الملائكة: يا ربنا جنتك، فيقول الرب تعالى: ثم ماذا؟ فتقول الملائكة يا ربنا كفاية مهمة، فيقول الرب تعالى: ثم ماذا؟ فلا يبقى شئ من الخير إلا قالته الملائكة، فيقول الله تعالى يا ملائكتي، ثم ماذا؟ فتقول الملائكة يا ربنا لا علم لنا، فيقول الله تعالى: لأشكرنه كما شكرني، وأقبل إليه بفضلي واريه رحمتي. ورواه الصدوق: باسناده عن أحمد بن أبي عبد الله، نحوه إلا أنه قال: وأريه وجهي

Abu As-Salt Al-Harawi reported that he said to Imam Ali Ar-Rida (a.): “O son of the Messenger of God, what is meant by the report which is narrated that the reward of the testimony: “No one is worthy of worship except God.” consists in looking at the face of God?” He said: “O Abu As-Salt! whoever describes God with a face like the faces, he is disbelieving, for the face of God are His prophets, His messengers, and His proofs (a.) It is through them that one turns to God, His religion, and His knowledge. The Exalted One says: “Everyone who is on it is perishable, but the face of your Lord remains.” (55:26-27) And the Exalted One says: “Everything is perishable except His face.” (28:88) Therefore, on the Day of Resurrection, it is a mighty reward for the believers to look at the prophets of God, His messenger and His proofs (a.) in their levels. The Prophet Muhammad (s.) said: “He who is angry with the people of my house and my family will not see me nor will be seen by me on the Day of Judgment.” And the Messenger said: “Among you is he who will not see me after he leaves me. O Abu As-Salt, God is neither described by a place, nor do the sight (6:103) and imagination reach Him.” [At-Tawhid of As-Saduq, pp. 117 – 118 Hadith 21]

حدثنا أحمد بن زياد بن جعفر الهمداني رحمه الله، قال: حدثنا علي ابن إبراهيم، عن أبيه إبراهيم بن هاشم، عن عبد السلام بن صالح الهروي، قال قلت لعلي بن موسى الرضا عليهما السلام: يا ابن رسول الله فما معنى الخبر الذي رووه أن ثواب لا إله إلا الله النظر إلى وجه الله؟ فقال عليه السلام: يا أبا الصلت من وصف الله بوجه كالوجوه فقد كفر ولكن وجه الله أنبياؤه ورسله وحججه صلوات الله عليهم، هم الذين بهم يتوجه إلى الله وإلى دينه ومعرفته، وقال الله عز وجل: كل من عليها فان و يبقى وجه ربك وقال عز وجل: كل شئ هالك إلا وجهه فالنظر إلى أنبياء الله ورسله وحججه عليهم السلام في درجاتهم ثواب عظيم للمؤمنين يوم القيامة، وقد قال النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم: من أبغض أهل بيتي وعترتي لم يرني ولم أره يوم القيامة وقال عليه السلام: إن فيكم من لا يراني بعد أن يفارقني يا أبا الصلت إن الله تبارك و تعالى لا يوصف بمكان، ولا تدركه الأبصار والأوهام
