Judgement on seeing with the eye

Question:

What is the verdict on those who believe they see God with their eyes?

Answer:

Hisham reported that Imam Ja’far As-Sadiq (a.) said: “The Prophet Muhammad (s.) never saw his Lord with the eyes. If by seeing he means seeing with the heart, he is right, and if by seeing he means seeing with the eye, he is disbelieving (kafir) in God and His signs , because the Messenger (s.) said: “He who compares God with His creation is disbelieving. He who compares Him to His creation has made for Him a partner.” [Wasa’il-ush-Shi’ah of Al-Hurr Al-Amili, Volume 28 Page 348 Hadith 30]

وعنه، عن التلعكبري، عن محمد بن الحسن، عن الصفار، عن يعقوب بن يزيد، عن محمد بن أبي عمير، عن هشام، عن الصادق عليه السلام في حديث قال: إن محمدا صلى الله عليه وآله لم ير الرب على مشاهدة العيان، فمن عنا بالرؤية رؤية القلب فهو مصيب، ومن عنا بها رؤية البصر فهو كافر بالله وبآياته، لقول رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله من شبه الله بخلقه فقد كفر إلى أن قال: ومن شبهه بخلقه فقد اتخذ معه شريكا
