The name of Ali is mentioned in the Qur’an, but the Sunnis use their own sources

Abdullah Ibn Waqid reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said:“Be careful about your religion and cover it with caution, because he who has no faith has no caution. You are among men only like bees among birds. If the birds knew what is inside the bees, there would be nothing left of it except that they eat it and if the people knew what is inside you, that you love us people of the house, they would devour you with their tongues and put an end to you in secret and in public. God has mercy on one of your servants, who was close to us.” [Al-Bihar of Al-Majlisi, Volume 72, Page 426 – 427, Hadith 75]

محمد بن يعقوب عن أبي علي الأشعري عن الحسن بن علي الكوفي عن العباس ابن عامر عن جابر المكفوف عن عبد الله بن واقد عن جعفر بن محمد الصادق عليهما السلام قال: اتقوا على دينكم واحجبوه بالتقية فإنه لا إيمان لمن لا تقية له إنما أنتم في الناس كالنحل في الطير لو أن الطير يعلم ما في أجواف النحل ما بقي منها شيء إلا أكلته ولو أن الناس علموا ما في أجوافكم أنكم تحبونا أهل البيت لأكلوكم بألسنتهم، ولنحلوكم في السر والعلانية رحم الله عبدا منكم كان على ولايتنا

Abd-ur-Rahman Ibn Abi Hashim reported that Salim Abu Salamah said: “Someone was reading near Abu Abdillah (As-Sadiq), while I heard wordings from the Qur’an, which the people do not read in this way. Then Abu Abdillah (a.) said: “Do not read in this way. Read as the people read until the Rising one (Qa’im) rises. When the Rising one rises, he reads the scripture of God according to its limits and brings forth the code (Mushaf) that Ali (a.) wrote down.” [Al-Wasa’il of Al-Amili, Volume 6, Page 163, Hadith 7630]

محمد بن يعقوب عن محمد بن يحيى عن محمد بن الحسين عن عبد الرحمن بن أبي هاشم عن سالم أبي سلمة قال قرأ رجل على أبي عبد الله عليه السلام وأنا أستمع حروفا من القرآن ليس على ما يقرأها الناس فقال أبو عبد الله عليه السلام كف عن هذه القراءة اقرأ كما يقرأ الناس حتى يقوم القائم فإذا قام القائم قرأ كتاب الله على حده وأخرج المصحف الذي كتبه علي عليه السلام

Ibn Muskan reported that Abu Basir said: “I asked Abu Abdillah (As-Sadiq) about the Word of God: “Obey God and obey the Messenger and the commanders from among you.” (4:59) To which he said: “It was revealed for Ali Ibn Abi Talib, Hasan and Husain (a.). Then i said to him: “The People say: What is with him? He did not mention Ali and the people of his house in the scripture of God.” Then he said: “Tell them: “The prayer was revealed to the Messenger of Allah, and Allah did not mention three or four (raka’ah) to them, until the Messenger of Allah was the one who explained it to them, and the alms was revealed to him, but He did not mention one silver for every forty pieces of silver, until the Messenger of Allah was the one who explained it to them, and the pilgrimage was revealed to them, but He did not tell them: “Make the circumambulation seven times.” Until the Messenger of Allah was the one who explained it to them and it was revealed: “Obey God and obey the messenger and the commanders among you.” (4:59) And it was revealed for Ali, Hasan and Husain (a.).” [Al-Burhan of Al-Bahrani, volume 2, page 261, Hadith 18]

محمد بن يعقوب عن علي بن إبراهيم، عن محمد بن عيسى، عن يونس وعلي بن محمد، عن سهل ابن زياد أبي سعيد، عن محمد بن عيسى، عن يونس، عن ابن مسكان، عن أبي بصير قال سألت أبا عبد الله عليه السلام عن قول الله عز وجل: أطيعوا الله وأطيعوا الرسول وأولي الأمر منكم فقال: نزلت في علي بن أبي طالب والحسن والحسين عليهم السلام: فقلت له: إن الناس يقولون فما له لم يسم عليا وأهل بيته عليهم السلام في كتاب الله عز و جل قال: فقال: قولوا لهم: إن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله نزلت عليه الصلاة ولم يسم الله لهم ثلاثا ولا أربعا، حتى كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله هو الذي فسر ذلك لهم، ونزلت عليه الزكاة ولم يسم لهم من كل أربعين درهما درهم، حتى كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله هو الذي فسر ذلك لهم، ونزل الحج فلم يقل لهم: طوفوا أسبوعا حتى كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله هو الذي فسر ذلك لهم، ونزلت أطيعوا الله وأطيعوا الرسول وأولي الأمر منكم ونزلت في علي والحسن والحسين

It was reported to Dawud Ibn Farqad that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “If you would read the Qur’an as it was revealed, you would find us mentioned by name in it.” [Al-Burhan of Al-Bahrani, Volume 1, Page 56, Hadith 4]

محمد بن مسعود عن داود بن فرقد عمن أخبره عن جعفر بن محمد الصادق عليهما السلام قال: لو قرئ القرآن كما أنزل لألفيتنا فيه مسمين

Zain-ul-Abidin (a.) reported that Imam Al-Husain (a.) said: “Umar Ibnu l-Khattab stood before the Prophet (s.) and said: “You constantly say to Ali, the son of Abu Talib: “You have from me a position that Aaron has with Moses.” While God mentioned Aaron in the Qur’an, but He did not mention Ali.” Then He said: “O crude one, O Bedouin, you did not hear Him say: “This is the straight path of Ali?” (15:41) [Al-Burhan of Al-Bahrani, volume 4, page 393, hadith 3]

محمد بن أحمد بن علي بن الحسين بن شاذان عن جعفر بن محمد عن محمد بن علي عن علي بن الحسين عن الحسين بن علي عليهم السلام قال: قام عمر بن الخطاب إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وآله فقال: إنك لا تزال تقول لعلي بن أبي طالب: أنت مني بمنزلة هارون من موسى وقد ذكر الله هارون في القرآن ولم يذكر عليا فقال النبي صلى الله عليه وآله: يا غليظ يا أعرابي إنك ما تسمع ما يقول: هَذَا صِرَاطُ عَلِيٍّ مُسْتَقِيمٌ

Hammad reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said about the verse: “The straight path” (1:6): “He is the commander of the believers (a.) and the recognition about him and the indication of it that he is the commander of the believers (a,) is the Word of God: “He is with Us in the Mother of the Scriptures (Fatihah) most certainly Ali, the wise.” (43:4) [Al-Burhan of Al-Bahrani, volume 7, page 106, hadith 2]

علي بن إبراهيم عن إبراهيم بن هاشم عن حماد عن جعفر بن محمد الصادق عليهما السلام في قوله تعالى الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ قال: هو أمير المؤمنين صلوات الله عليه ومعرفته والدليل على أنه أمير المؤمنين قوله تعالى: وَإِنَّهُ فِي أُمِّ الْكِتَابِ (الْفَاتِحَةِ) لَدَيْنَا لَعَلِيٌّ حَكِيمٌ

Faid Ibn Mukhtar reported, that Imam  As-Sadiq (a.) read: “Surely Ali is the guide and to him belongs the hereafter and this world” (92:12-13) And this is what happened, when he was asked about the Qur’an. He said: “There are wonders in it. It says in it: “God spared the believers through Ali in the battle.” (33:25) And it says in it: “Surely Ali is the guide, and to him belongs the hereafter and this world.” (92:12-13) [Al-Burhan of Al-Bahrani, volume 8, page 307, hadith 10]

محمد بن خالد البرقي عن يونس بن ظبيان عن علي بن أبي حمزة عن فيض بن مختار عن جعفر بن محمد الصادق عليهما السلام أنه قرأ: إِنَّ عَلِيًّا لَلْهُدَى وَإِنَّ لَهُ الْآخِرَةُ وَالْأُولَى وذلك حيث سُئل عنِ القُرآن قال: فيه الأعاجيب فيه: وَكَفَى اللهُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ الْقِتَالَ بِعَلِيٍّ وفيه: إِنَّ عَلِيًّا لَلْهُدَى وَإِنَّ لَهُ الْآخِرَةُ وَالْأُولَى

Abu Basir reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “Abraham prayed to God to appoint a true tongue for him among the later ones (26:84), whereupon God said: “We bestowed on him Isaac and Jacob and appointed them both as prophets and We bestowed upon them from Our grace and We appointed Ali as a true tongue.” (19:50) By which is meant, Ali, the son of Abu Talib (a.).” [Al-Burhan of Al-Bahrani, Volume 5, Page 126, Hadith 7]

محمد بن علي بن شهر آشوب عن أبي بصير عن جعفر بن محمد الصادق عليهما السلام قال: إن إبراهيم عليه السلام كان قد دعا الله أن يجعل له لسان صدق في الآخرين فقال الله تعالى: وَهَبْنَا لَهُ إِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ وَكُلًّا جَعَلْنَا نَبِيًّا وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُم مِّن رَّحْمَتِنَا وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُمْ لِسَانَ صِدْقٍ عَلِيًّا يعني عِلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ عليهما السلام

Ja’far As-Sadiq (a.) reported that Imam Ali (a.) said: “I am the eye of God, His truthful tongue and His hand.” [Al-Bihar of Al-Majlisi, Volume 4, Page 9, Hadith 18]
