Question:

With which methods did A’ishah teach the whole body wash (ghusl)?

Answer:

[ 1. ] Clothed and with words

Urwah reported that A’ishah said: “When the Prophet Muhammad (s.) performed the whole-body wash (ghusl) after intercourse, he began to wash his hands. Then he performed the prayer washing (Wudu’) as it is done for prayer. Then he dipped his fingers into the water and ran them over the root of his hair. Then he poured three hands of water over his head. Then he poured the water all over his skin.” [Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 1 Page 187 – 188 Hadith 248]

[ 2. ] Naked and without words

Abu Bakr Ibn Hafs reported that Abu Salamah said: “I and the brother of A’ishah went in to A’ishah and her brother asked her about the full body wash (ghusl) of the Prophet Muhammad (s.). So she brought a vessel that was about a quarter filled with water. She then performed the full-body wash (ghusl) and poured it over her head, while there was a cloth between her and us.” [Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 1 Page 189 Hadith 251]
