Ali on the day of Uhud

Nu’man Ar-Razi reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “The people, being defeated on the Day of Uhud, [ran away] from the Messenger of God (s.). So he became angry with intense anger. Whenever he would become angry, sweat would descend from his forehead like pearls. So he looked around so there was Ali (a.) by his side. […] He said: “So suffice for me against these (enemies).” Then he rode and struck the first one he met from them. So Gabriel (a.) said: “This is the consolation, o Muhammad (s.).” So he said: “He is from me and I am from him.” So Gabriel (a.) said: “And I am from both of you, o Muhammad (s.)” So the Messenger of God (s.) looked towards Gabriel (a.) who was on a seat of gold in between the sky and the earth and he was saying: “There is no sword except Dhul-fiqar and no youth except Ali (a.).” [Al-Kafi of Al-Kulaini, Volume 8 Page 110 Hadith 90]

حميد بن زياد، عن الحسن بن محمد الكندي، عن أحمد بن الحسن الميثمي، عن أبان عثمان، عن نعمان الرازي، عن أبي عبد الله (عليه السلام) قال: انهزم الناس يوم أحد عن رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) فغضب غضبا شديدا، قال: وكان إذا غضب انحدر عن جبينيه مثل اللؤلؤ من العرق، قال: فنظر فإذا علي (عليه السلام) إلى جنبه … قال: فاكفني هؤلاء فحمل فضرب أول من لقى منهم، فقال: جبرئيل (عليه السلام) إن هذه لهي المؤاساة يا محمد فقال: إنه مني وأنا منه، فقال جبرئيل (عليه السلام): وأنا منكما يا محمد، فقال أبو عبد الله (عليه السلام) فنظر رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) إلى جبرئيل (عليه السلام) على كرسي من ذهب بين السماء والأرض وهو يقول: لا سيف إلا ذو الفقار ولا فتى إلا علي

Abu Bakr Al-Ja’abi reported from his chain that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “On the Day of Uhud, an angel from the heaven, who was called Ridhwan, called out: “There is no sword except Dhul-fiqar and no youth except Ali (a.).” [Bihar-ul-Anwar of Al-Majlisi, Volume 42 Page 58]
