Taking God as a refuge and fortress in difficulties

Rajab ibn Muhammad reported that Imam Ali (a.) said:,,It is as if I see the hypocrites, who say: ﴾Ali has declared himself to be the Lord.﴿ Behold, then bear witness, which he will question you about as needed. Ali is a created light and a provisioned servant, and whoever says anything other than that, may the curse of God be upon him and the curse of the cursers.” Hereupon he descended while saying: ,,I took the holder of kingship and empire as a stronghold and took refuge in the holder of honor and power and sought protection in the holder of power and kingdom from all that I am afraid and wary of. You people, none of you mentioned these words in any calamity or difficulty except that God removed it from him.” So Jabir said to him: ,, It alone, O commander of the faithful?” Then he said: ,,Yes, and it is completed with the thirteen names.” And he pressed on me. Hereupon he ascended and disappeared.” [Mashariq Anwari l-Yaqin of Al-Bursi, page 267]

رَجَـبُ بْـنُ مُـحَـمَّـدٍ عَـنْ عَـلِـيِّ بْـنِ أَبِـي طَـالِـبٍ عَـلَـيْـهِ الـسَّـلَامُ قَـالَ: كَـأَنِّـي بِـالْـمُـنَـافِـقِـيـنَ يَـقُـولُـونَ نَـصَّ عَـلِـيٌّ عَـلَـى نَـفْـسِـهِ بِـالـرَّبَّـانِـيَّـةِ أَلَا فَـاشْـهَـدُوا شَـهَـادَةً سَـأَلَـكُـمْ بِـهَـا عِـنْـدَ الْـحَـاجَـةِ إِلَـيْـهَـا إِنَّ عَـلِـيًّـا نُـورٌ مَـخْـلُـوقٌ وَعَـبْـدٌ مَـرْزُوقٌ وَمَـنْ قَـالَ غَـيْـرَ هَـذَا فَـعَـلَـيْـهِ لَـعْـنَـةُ الـلَّـهِ وَلَـعْـنَـةُ الـلَّاعِـنِـيـنَ ثُـمَّ نَـزَلَ وَهُـوَ يَـقُـولُ: تَـحَـصَّـنْـتُ بِـذِي الْـمُـلْـكِ وَالْـمَـلَـكُـوتِ وَاعْـتَـصَـمْـتُ بِـذِي الْـعِـزَّةِ وَالْـجَـبَـرُوتِ وَامْـتَـنَـعْـتُ بِـذِي الْـقُـدْرَةِ وَالْـمَـلَـكُـوتِ مِـنْ كُـلِّ مَـا أَخَـافُ وَأَحْـذَرُ أَيُّـهَـا الـنَّـاسُ مَـا ذَكَـرَ أَحَـدُكُـمْ هَـذِهِ الْـكَـلِـمَـاتِ عِـنْـدَ نَـازِلَـةٍ أَوْ شِـدَّةٍ إِلَّا وَأَزَاحَـهَـا الـلَّـهُ عَـنْـهُ فَـقَـالَ لَـهُ جَـابِـرٌ: وَحْـدَهَـا يَـا أَمِـيـرَ الْـمُـؤْمِـنِـيـنَ فَـقَـالَ: نَـعَـمْ وَأُضِـيـفَ إِلَـيْـهَـا الـثَّـلَاثَـةَ عَـشَـرَ اسْـمًـا وَضَـمَّـنِـي ثُـمَّ رَكِـبَ وَمَـضَـى

Ali Ibn Zaini l-Abidin reported that Imam Ali (a.) said: ,,The hypocrites say: ﴾Ali has declared himself to be the Lord.﴿ So bear witness. I will question you as needed. Ali, the son of Abu Talib, is a created light and a provisioned servant. Whoever says anything other than that, God curse him who lied about me.” And he descended from the pulpit while saying: ,,I took the Living One Who does not die and the Holder of honor and authority and power and kingdom as a stronghold against all that I am afraid and wary of. Whatever servant said this in any calamity that befell him, from him He would remove it.” Ibn Qudamah said: ,,We only say these words?” Then he said:,,You complete them with the twelve Imams and supplicate for what you want and like. عَـلِـيُّ بْـنُ زَيْـنِ الْـعَـابِـدِيـنَ عَـنْ عَـلِـيِّ بْـنِ أَبِـي طَـالِـبٍ عَـلَـيْـهِ الـسَّـلَامُ قَـالَ: الْـمُـنَـافِـقُـونَ يَـقُـولُـونَ عَـلِـيٌّ نَـصَّ عَـلَـى نَـفْـسِـهِ بِـالـرُّبُـوبِـيَّـةِ فَـاشْـهَـدُوا شَـهَـادَةً أَسْـأَلُـكُـمْ عِـنْـدَ الْـحَـاجَـةِ إِنَّ عَـلِـيَّ بْـنَ أَبِـي طَـالِـبٍ نُـورٌ مَـخْـلُـوقٌ وَعَـبْـدٌ مَـرْزُوقٌ مَـنْ قَـالَ غَـيْـرَ هَـذَا لَـعَـنَـهُ الـلَّـهُ مَـنْ كَـذِبَ عَـلَـيَّ وَنَـزَلَ الْـمِـنْـبَـرَ وَهُـوَ يَـقُـولُ: تَـحَـصَّـنْـتُ بِـالْـحَـيِّ الَّـذِي لَا يَـمُـوتُ ذِي الْـعِـزِّ وَالْـجَـبَـرُوتِ وَالْـقُـدْرَةِ وَالْـمَـلَـكُـوتِ مِـنْ كُـلِّ مَـا أَخَـافُ وَأَحْـذَرُ فَـأَيُّـمَـا عَـبْـدٍ قَـالَـهَـا عِـنْـدَ نَـازِلَـةٍ بِـهِ إِلَّا وَكَـشَـفَـهَـا عَـنْـهُ قَـالَ ابْـنُ قُـدَامَـةَ: نَـقُـولُ هَـذِهِ الْـكَـلِـمَـاتِ وَحْـدَهَـا فَـقَـالَ عَـلَـيْـهِ الـسَّـلَامُ: تُـضِـيـفُ إِلَـيْـهِـمَـا الْاِثْـنَـيْ عَـشَـرَ إِمَـامًـا وَتَـدْعُـو بِـمَـا أَرَدتَّ وَأَحْـبَـبْـتَ يَـسْـتَـجِـيـبُ الـلَّـهُ دُعَـاكَ
