Friday (Jumuah) prayer in absence of the infallible Imam

Question:

Is there Friday prayer in the absence of the Imam of our time (a.)?

Answer:

Ja’far Ibn Ahmad reported that Imam Al-Baqir (a.) said: ,,The Friday prayer is a duty (Fard) and to gather for it, is a duty with the Imam (a.).” [Mustadrak-ul-Wasa’il by An-Nuri, vol. 16 page 14]

عن حسين بن محمد عن جعفر بن أحمد  عن أبي جعفر الباقر عليه السلام قال: صلاة يوم الجمعة فريضة والاجتماع إليها فريضة مع الإِمام

An-Nu’man Ibn Muhammad reported that Imam Al-Baqir (a.) said: ,,Friday prayer is fixed (wajib) upon everyone, who is eleven kilometers away, when a just Imam (a.) is present.” [Mustadrak-ul-Wasa’il of An-Nuri, Volume 16 Page 12]

عن حسين بن محمد عن النعمان بن محمد عن أبي جعفر الباقر عليه السلام قال:  تجب الجمعة على كل من كان منها على فرسخين, إذا كان الإمام عدلا

Ali Ibn Abi Talib (a.) reported that the Prophet Muhammad (s.) said: ,,O Ali, women do not have Friday prayers and they slaughter only, when there is no other way.” [Wasa’il-ush-Shi’ah of Al-Amili, Vol. 16 Page 276 Hadith 3]

وباسناده عن حماد بن عمرو وأنس بن محمد عن أبيه جميعا عن جعفر بن محمد عن آبائه في وصية النبي صلى الله عليه وآله لعلى عليه السلام قال: يا علي ليس على النساء جمعة إلى أن قال ولا تذبح الا عند الضرورة

Ja’far As-Sadiq (a.) reported that Imam Muhammad Al-Baqir (a.) said: ,,The inhabitants of the villages are not obliged to pray on Fridays.” [Fiqh-us-Sadiq of Ar-Ruhani, volume 5 page 167]

عن محمد صادق الروحاني عن حفص عن جعفر عن محمد الباقي عليهما السلام قال: ليس على أهل القرى جمعة

Al-Husain (a.) reported that Imam Ali (a.) said: ,,If there is one of the commanders (a.) among the clan, who executes the border punishments (Hudud) on them, then the Friday prayer and turning to the East is fixed (Wajib) for them.” [Mustadrak-ul-Wasa’il of An-Nuri, Volume 6, page 13]

الجعفريات أخبرنا محمد, حدثني موسى حدثنا أبي, عن أبيه عن جده جعفر بن محمد عن أبيه عن جده علي بن الحسين عن أبيه عن علي عليه السلام قال: العشيرة إذا كان عليهم أمير يقيم الحدود عليهم فقد وجب عليهما الجمعة والتشريق

An-Nu’man Ibn Muhammad reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: ,,There is no Friday prayer except with a just devout Imam (a.).” [Mustadrak-ul-Wasa’il by An-Nuri, Volume 16, Page 13]

عن حسين بن محمد عن النعمان بن محمد عن أبي عبد الله الصادق عليه السلام قال: لا جمعة إلا مع إمام عدل تقي

An-Nu’man Ibn Muhammad reported that Imam Ali (a.) said: ,,There is no valid judgement and no border punishment (Hudud) and no Friday prayer, except with a just Imam.” [Mustadrak-ul-Wasa’il by An-Nuri, Volume 16 Page 13]

عن حسين بن محمد عن النعمان بن محمد عن علي عليه السلام قال: لا يصلح الحكم ولا الحدود ولا الجمعة إلا بإمام عدل

Nu’man Ibn Muhammad reported that Imam Ali (a.) said: ,,There is no valid judgment and no border punishments (Hudud) and no Friday prayer, except with the Imam (a.) or with the one, the Imam (a.) sets up.” [Fiqh-us-Sadiq of Ar-Ruhani, Volume 5, page 168]
