A lot of effort without Imam?

Muhammad Ibn Muslim reported that Imam Al-Baqir (a.) said: “Whoever confessed to God with worship (Ibadah), in which he made an effort, while having no Imam from God, his effort is not accepted and he is misguided and confused and God hates his deeds. His parable is the parable of a sheep that strayed from his shepherd and his flock. It wanders by day and at nightfall it reaches another flock and its shepherd, where it feels comfortable and is seduced. He lingers with them one night in their stable and when the shepherd leads his flock out afterwards, he refuses the shepherd and his flock and begins to wander confused, seeking his shepherd and his flock. Then he sees a flock of sheep with their shepherd, with whom he feels comfortable and is enticed by them, but the shepherd cries out to him: “Join your shepherd and your flock, for you have wandered and strayed from your shepherd and your flock. Then it runs back and forth and wanders and wanders around, having no shepherd to lead it to a willow or barn or to bring it back. While in that state, a wolf eats it when he takes advantage of his lost condition and by God, o Muhammad, so becomes one of this nation who has no manifest and righteous Imam of God. He goes the wrong way and wanders around and when he dies in this state, he dies a death of unbelief and hypocrisy. Know, o Muhammad, that the unjust Imams and their followers are cut off from God’s religion. They are misguided and mislead others: “Their works are like the ashes” (14:18) on which the wind blows violently on a stormy day. They do not have any of what they have acquired. This is the wide misdirection.” [Al-Kafi of Al-Kulaini, volume 1, page 107 Hadith 8]

محمد بن يحيى، عن محمد بن الحسين، عن صفوان بن يحيى، عن العلاء بن رزين عن محمد بن مسلم قال: سمعت أبا جعفر عليه السلام يقول: كل من دان الله عز وجل بعبادة يجهد فيها نفسه ولا إمام له من الله فسعيه غير مقبول، وهو ضال متحير والله شانئ لاعماله، ومثله كمثل شاة ضلت عن راعيها وقطيعها، فهجمت ذاهبة وجائية يومها، فلما جنها الليل بصرت بقطيع غنم مع راعيها، فحنت إليها واغترت بها، فباتت معها في مربضها فلما أن ساق الراعى قطيعه أنكرت راعيها وقطيعها، فهجمت متحيرة تطلب راعيها وقطيعها فبصرت بغنم مع راعيها فحنت إليها واغترت بها فصاح بها الراعي: الحقي براعيك، وقطيعك فأنت تائهة متحيرة عن راعيك وقطيعك، فهجمت ذعرة، متحيرة، تائهة، لا راعي لها يرشدها إلى مرعاها أو يردها، فبينا هي كذلك إذا اغتنم الذئب ضيعتها، فأكلها، وكذلك والله يا محمد من أصبح من هذه الامة لا إمام له من الله عزوجل ظاهر عادل، أصبح ضالا تائها، وإن مات على هذه الحالة مات ميتة كفر ونفاق، و اعلم يا محمد أن أئمة الجور وأتباعهم لمعزولون عن دين الله قد ضلوا وأضلوا فأعمالهم التي يعملونها كرماد اشتدت به الريح في يوم عاصف، لا يقدرون مما كسبوا على شئ، ذلك هو الضلال البعيد
