Accountability and intellect

Ibn Sikkit reported that he asked Imam Ar-Rida (a.): “What is in the present time the proof for the creation?” He said: “The intellect (aql). Through it you know the one who speaks the truth about Allah, whereupon you believe in him, and the one who lies about Allah, whereupon you declare him to be a liar.” Ibn Sikkit said: “By God, this is the answer!” Ja’far As-Sadiq (a.) reported that Imam Al-Baqir (a.) said: “O my son, recognize the ranks of the followers by the amount of their narrations and their cognition, for cognition consists of understanding the narrations, and by understanding the narrations, the believer ascends to the highest levels of faith. I looked into the book of Ali (a.) and found in the book: “The preciousness and value of every human being is his knowledge. God calls men to account according to the intellect He has given them in this world.” Abu l-Jarud reported that Imam Al-Baqir (a.) said: “God calls the servants to account on the Day of Resurrection according to the intellect He granted them in this world.” Sulaiman Ibn Ja’far reported that the Prophet Muhammad (s.) said: “We the prophets speak to the people according to their intellects.” Ali Ibn Abi Talib (a.) reported that the Prophet Muhammad (s.) said: “If you notice about someone that he is in good condition, then consider whether his intellect is good, because he will be rewarded according to his intellect.” [Bihar-ul-Anwar of Al-Majlisi, Volume 1 page 93]

عن ابن السكيت قال: فما الحجة على الخلق اليوم؟ فقال الرضا عليه السلام: العقل تعرف به الصادق على الله فتصدقه، والكاذب على الله فتكذبه، فقال ابن السكيت: هذا هو والله الجواب وعن جعفر الصادق عليه السلام عن الإمام الباقر عليه السلام قال: يا بني اعرف منازل الشيعة على قدر روايتهم ومعرفتهم، فإن المعرفة هي الدراية للرواية، وبالدرايات للروايات يعلو المؤمن إلى أقصى درجات الايمان، إني نظرت في كتاب لعلي عليه السلام فوجدت في الكتاب أن قيمة كل امرئ وقدره معرفته، إن الله تبارك وتعالى يحاسب الناس على قدر ما آتاهم من العقول في دار الدنيا وعن أبي الجارود عن الإمام الباقر عليه السلام قال: إنما يداق الله العباد في الحساب يوم القيامة على قدر ما آتاهم من العقول في الدنيا وعن سليمان بن جعفر عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله قال: إنا معاشر الأنبياء نكلم الناس على قدر عقولهم وعن علي بن أبي طالب علهما السلام عن النبي صلى الله عليه وآله قال: إذا بلغكم عن رجل حسن حاله فانظروا في حسن عقله، فإنما يجازى بعقله
