The veil due to Umar

Question:

Do the innovators report that they attribute the veil (hijab) to Umar?

Answer:

Urwah reported that Aishah said: “Umar Ibn Al-Khattab used to say to the Prophet Muhammad (s.): “Give your women a veil!” But he did not, and the wives of the Prophet (s.) used to go out at night to a place called Al-Manasi. So Sawdah, the daughter of Zam’ah, went out and she was a tall woman. When Umar Ibn Al-Khattab saw her while attending a session, he said out of an effort to have the veil revealed: “I have recognized you, O Sawdah!” Therefore God sent down the verse about the veil.” [Sahih Al-Bukhari, Hadith 5886]

حدثنا إسحاق أخبرنا يعقوب بن إبراهيم حدثنا أبي عن صالح عن ابن شهاب قال أخبرني عروة بن الزبير أن عائشة رضي الله عنها زوج النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قالت كان عمر بن الخطاب يقول لرسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم احجب نساءك قالت فلم يفعل وكان أزواج النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يخرجن ليلا إلى ليل قبل المناصع فخرجت سودة بنت زمعة وكانت امرأة طويلة فرآها عمر بن الخطاب وهو في المجلس فقال عرفتك يا سودة حرصا على أن ينزل الحجاب قالت فأنزل الله عز وجل آية الحجاب

Abu Qatadah reported that the Prophet Muhammad (s.) said: “If the people obey Abu Bakr and Umar, then they are already rightly guided.” [Ar-Riyad-un-Nadirah of At-Tabari, page 344 Hadith 220]

عن أبي قتادة قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: إن يطع الناس أبا بكر وعمر فقد رشدوا

Thank God we reject these lies of the followers of Umar.
