Al-Kazim is called “Ahmad”

Someone reported to some companions that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said:“No child will be born to us except that we named him Muhammad. Then when seven days have passed, we would change it if we wanted to and if not, we would keep it.” [Al-Wasa’il of Al-Amili, Volume 21, Page 392, Hadith 27384]

محمد بن يعقوب، عن عدة من أصحابنا عن أحمد بن محمد عن بعض أصحابنا عمن ذكره عن جعفر بن محمد الصادق عليهما السلام قال: لا يولد لنا ولد إلا سميناه محمدا فإذا مضى سبعة أيام فإن شئنا غيرنا وإلا تركنا

Haitham ibn Waqid reported that Abdullah Ar-Rajani said: “I was with Abu Abdillah (As-Sadiq) when Abd Salih (Al-Kazim) came in to him, whereupon he said: “O Ahmad.” Hereupon I said: “My life be sacrificed to you, surely his name is so-and-so.” He said: “Rather his name is Ahmad and Muhammad.” Then he said to me: “The lord of this matter will be seized and taken into custody, whereupon his custody will last long. So when they intended to do something to him, he would call upon the supreme name of God, whereupon He would save him from their hands.” [Al-Ghaibah of At-Tusi, page 57, Hadith 51]

قال: وأخبرني إبراهيم بن محمد بن حمران وحمران والهيثم بن واقد الجزري عن عبد الله الرجاني قال: كنت عند أبي عبد الله عليه السلام، إذ دخل عليه العبد الصالح عليه السلام فقال: يا أحمد إفعل كذا، فقلت: جعلت فداك اسمه فلان فقال: بل اسمه أحمد ومحمد ثم قال لي: يا عبد الله إن صاحب هذا الامر يؤخذ فيحبس فيطول حبسه فإذا هموا به دعا باسم الله الأعظم فأفلته من أيديهم
