Do not compare me?

Question:

An innovator made the claim that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) was called by the names of the prophets, whereupon he would have ordered that he should not be compared to a prophet. The source cited was the 2nd volume of Ikhtiyar Fi Ma’rifat Ar-Rijal on page 614. So which report do we actually have?

The servant of Umar has lied!

Muhammad ibn Al-Hasan reported that Al-Mufaddal ibn Umar said: “We came in to Imam Ja’far As-Sadiq (a.) and we were twelve men. Imam Ja’far As-Sadiq (a.) greeted one man of us and he gave each man of us the name of a Prophet. He said to some of us: “Peace be upon you, O Nuh!” And he said to some of us: “Peace be upon you, O Ibrahim!” Then it came to the last person who was greeted, and he said: “Peace be upon you, O Yunus!” Then he said: “Do not put the prophets in competition with each other!” [Ikhtiyar Ma’rifat Ar-Rijal of At-Tusi, Volume 2 page 615]

عن محمد بن الحسن رضي الله عنه عن المفضل بن عمر أنه قال: أدخلنا على أبي عبد الله عليه السلام ونحن اثنى عشر رجلا، قال: فجعل أبو عبد الله عليه السلام يسلم على رجل رجل منا ويسمي كل رجل منا باسم نبي، وقال لبعضنا: السلام عليك يا نوح، وقال لبعضنا: السلام عليك يا إبراهيم، وكان آخر من سلم عليه وقال: السلام عليك يا يونس، ثم قال: لا تخاير بين الأنبياء

Muhammad Ibn Ishaq Ath-Tha’labi reported that Imam Ja’far As-Sadiq (a.) said: “We are the best creatures that God created and our followers are the best creatures of God amongst the congregation of His Prophets (s.).” [Ghaiat-ul-Maram by Hashim Al-Bahrani, Volume 5 page 17 – 18 Hadith 11]

الشيخ في أماليه قال: أخبرنا أبو عبد الله محمد بن محمد بن النعمان قال: حدثنا أبو بكر محمد بن عمر الجعاني قال: حدثني جعفر بن محمد بن سليمان بن الفضل قال: حدثنا داود بن رشده قال: حدثني محمد بن إسحاق الثعلبي الموصلي أبو نوفل قال: سمعت جعفر بن محمد عليه السلام يقول: نحن خيرة الله من خلقه وشيعتنا خيرة الله من أمة نبيه

Ja’far Ibn Muhammad Al-Farazi reported that Imam Muhammad Al-Baqir (a.) said: “O Khaithamah, a time will come upon people when they will not know God or His Oneness until the false Messiah comes out and Jesus, the son of Mary (a.), is sent down from the heavenly world. God puts an end to the false Messiah by His hand and one of us from the people of the house performs prayer with them. Don’t you see that Jesus (a.) is praying behind us while he is a prophet and that we are better than him?” [Bihar-ul-Anwar of Al-Majlisi, Volume 14 page 348 – 349 Hadith 10]

تفسير فرات بن إبراهيم: جعفر بن محمد الفزاري رفعه إلى أبي جعفر عليه السلام قال: يا خيثمة سيأتي على الناس زمان لا يعرفون الله ما هو والتوحيد حتى يكون خروج الدجال، وحتى ينزل عيسى بن مريم عليه السلام من السماء، ويقتل الله الدجال على يديه، ويصلي بهم رجل منا أهل البيت، ألا ترى أن عيسى عليه السلام يصلي خلفنا وهو نبي إلا ونحن أفضل منه
