Reaction of the imam, when one insults his mother

Muhammad ibn Ali reported that a Nazarene asked Imam al-Baqir (a.): “You are a cattle (baqar)?” He said: “I am a splitter (baqir).” He asked: “You are the son of a cook.” He said: ” That is her profession.” He said: “You are the son of a dark shameless woman.” Imam Al-Baqir (a.) said: “If you are right, may God forgive her, and if you are lying, may God forgive you.” He said: “Thereupon the Nazarene converted to Islam.” [Al-Manaqib by Ibn Shahr Ashub, Volume 3, Page 337.]

عن محمد بن علي بن شهر أن نصرانيا قال لأبي جعفر عليه السلام: أنت بقر قال: أنا باقر، قال: أنت ابن الطباخة قال: ذاك حرفتها، قال: أنت ابن السود الزنجية البذية، قال: إن كنت صدقت غفر الله لها وإن كنت كذبت غفر الله لك قال: فأسلم النصراني

Muhammad Al-Baqir (a.) reported that Prophet Muhammad (s.) said: “By God, among the people of my house from my lineage, there are certainly rightly guided leaders after me. They have been given my knowledge, my intellect, my forbearance and my character and they have been formed from a clay of my pure clay. Woe to the deniers of their rights and those who lie about them after me and separate from them, dispossess them and deprive them of their rights, for God does not grant those my intercession.” [Al-Basa’ir of As-Saffar, page 70, hadith 8]

حدثنا محمد بن الحسين وعبد الله بن محمد جميعا عن الحسن بن محبوب بن العلا بن رزين عن محمد عن أبي جعفر عليه السلام قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله اما والله ان في أهل بيتي من عترتي لهداة مهتدين من بعدي يعطهم علمي وفهمي وحلمي وخلقي وطينتهم من من طينتي الطاهرة وويل للمنكرين لحقهم المكذبين لهم من بعدي القاطعين فيهم صلتي المستولين عليه والاخذين منهم حقهم الا فلا أنالهم الله شفاعتي

The Qur’an states:

“You possess a great character.” [Al-Qalam 68:4]

وإنك لعلى خلق عظيم

“Many of the People of the Book would like to make you disbelievers again after you have become believers, since they feel envy of their own accord after the truth has become clear to them. So forgive and be lenient until God arrives with His command. God has power over all things.” [Al-Baqarah 2:109]

ود كثير من أهل الكتاب لو يردونكم من بعد إيمانكم كفارا حسدا من عند أنفسهم من بعد ما تبين لهم الحق فاعفوا واصفحوا حتى يأتي الله بأمره إن الله على كل شيء قدير
