The best of saying (39:23)

“God sent down the best  of saying (hadith). A similar repetitive scripture at which the skin of those who fear their Lord shivers. Thereupon their skin softens and their hearts are softened to the remembrance of God. This is the guidance of God. He guides with it whom He wills and whom God misguides, he has no guide.” [Az-Zumar 39:23]

الله نزل أحسن الحديث كتابا متشابها مثاني تقشعر منه جلود الذين يخشون ربهم ثم تلين جلودهم وقلوبهم إلى ذكر الله ذلك هدى الله يهدي به من يشاء ومن يضلل الله فما له من هاد

Jabir ibn Yazid reported Imam Al-Baqir (a.): “I said: ﴾When people mention or narrate something from the Qur’an, one of them falls down, until it is noticed that if one of them were to cut off his hands or feet, he would not feel it.﴿ Then he said: ﴾Praise be to God. This is from Satan. That is not what they were described with. It is only about softness, gentleness, tears and fear.﴿” [Al-Kafi of Al-Kulaini, Volume 2, page 616 – 617, Hadith 13].

عدة من أصحابنا، عن سهل بن زياد، عن يعقوب بن إسحاق الضبي، عن أبي عمران الأرمني، عن عبد الله بن الحكم، عن جابر بن يزيد عن محمد بن علي الباقر عليه السلام قال قلت: إن قوما إذا ذكروا شيئا من القرآن أو حدثوا به صعق أحدهم حتى يرى أن أحدهم لو قطعت يداه أو رجلاه لم يشعر بذلك فقال سبحان الله ذاك من الشيطان ما بهذا نعتوا إنما هو اللين والرقة والدمعة والوجل

Mufaddal Ibn Umar reported that Imam Al-Baqir (a.) said: “Our saying is difficult, burdensome, astute and frank. No near angel bears it and no sent Prophet and no servant whose heart God tested for faith. As for the difficult, it is that which one has not yet engaged in, as for the burdensome, it is that from which one flees, as for the astute, it is the astuteness of the believers and as for the frank, it is that to which nothing is attached from the front or the back and it is the word of God: ﴾God sent down the best saying (Hadith).﴿ (39:23) So the best saying is our saying. None of the creatures endure his matter in its perfection until he limits it, for he who limits something is greater than it and praise be to God for success and the denial is disbelief.” [Basa’ir-ud-Darajat of As-Saffar, page 44, hadith 16]

المفضل بن عمر عن محمد بن علي الباقر عليه السلام قال: إن حديثنا صعب مستصعب ذكوان أجرد لا يحتمله ملك مقرب ولا نبي مرسل ولا عبد امتحن الله قلبه للايمان اما الصعب فهو الذي لم يركب بعد واما المستصعب فهو الذي يهرب منه إذا رأى واما الذكوان فهو ذكاء المؤمنين واما الاجرد فهو الذي لا يتعلق به شيء من بين يديه ولا من خلفه وهو قول الله الله نزل أحسن الحديث فأحسن الحديث حديثنا لا يحتمله أحد من الخلائق أمره بكماله حتى يحده لأنه من حد شيئا فهو أكبر منه والحمد لله على التوفيق والانكار هو الكفر

Hisham ibn Salim reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “My saying (hadith) is the saying of my father, the saying of my father is the saying of my grandfather, the saying of my grandfather is the saying of Husain, the saying of Husain is the saying of Hasan, the saying of Hasan is the saying of the Commander of the Believers (a.). ), the saying of the Commander of the Believers is the saying of the Messenger of God (s.), and the saying of the Messenger of God is the saying of God.” [Al-Kafi of Al-Kulaini, Volume 1, Page 43, Hadith 14]

علي بن محمد، عن سهل بن زياد، عن أحمد بن محمد، عن عمر بن عبد العزيز عن هشام بن سالم عن جعفر بن محمد الصادق عليه السلام قال: حديثي حديث أبي، وحديث أبي حديث جدي، وحديث جدي حديث الحسين، وحديث الحسين حديث الحسن، وحديث الحسن حديث أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام وحديث أمير المؤمنين حديث رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وحديث رسول الله قول الله عز وجل

Muhammad ibn Muslim reported that Imam Al-Baqir (a.) said: “The Book of God is the most trustworthy of sayings (hadith) and the best of narrations and God said: ﴾When you read the Qur’an, listen and obey. Possibly One will have mercy upon you.﴿ (7:204) So listen in obedience to God and listen in desire for His mercy.” [Al-Kafi of Al-Kulaini, Vol. 3, page 423, Hadith 6]

محمد بن يحيى، عن أحمد بن محمد، عن الحسين بن سعيد، عن النضر بن سويد، عن يحيى الحلبي، عن بريد بن معاوية، عن محمد بن مسلم, عن محمد بن علي الباقر عليه السلام قال: إن كتاب الله أصدق الحديث وأحسن القصص وقال الله عز وجل وإذا قرئ القرآن فاستمعوا له وأنصتوا لعلكم ترحمون فاسمعوا طاعة الله وأنصتوا ابتغاء رحمته

Muhammad ibn Hasan reported that Imam Ali (a.) said: “This is the silent Book of God and I am the speaking Book of God.” [Al-Fusul-ul-Muhimmah of Al-Amili, Volume 1, Page 595, Hadith 5]

محمد بن الحسن عن علي بن أبي طالب عليه السلام قال: هذا كتاب الله الصامت، وأنا كتاب الله الناطق

Asbagh ibn Nubatah reported that Imam Ali (a.) said: “I am the successor of the Messenger of God and his assistant and heir. I am the brother of the Messenger of God and his representative and beloved. I am the best friend of the Messenger of God and his companion. I am the son of the uncle of the Messenger of God and the consort of his daughter and the father of his offspring. I am the master of the representatives and the representative of the master of the prophets. I am the greatest proof, the mightiest sign, the highest example and the gateway to the chosen prophet. I am the strongest support, the word of mindfulness and the trustee of God for the people of this world.” [Al-Amali of As-Saduq, page 92, hadith 7]

حدثنا الحسين بن إبراهيم المؤدب، قال: حدثنا محمد بن أبي عبد الله الكوفي، عن سهل بن زياد، عن جعفر بن محمد بن بشار، عن عبيد الله بن عبد الله الدهقان، عن درست بن أبي منصور الواسطي، عن عبد الحميد بن أبي العلاء، عن ثابت بن دينار، عن سعد بن طريف الخفاف، عن الأصبغ بن نباتة, عن علي بن أبي طالب عليه السلام قال: أنا خليفة رسول الله ووزيره ووارثه أنا أخو رسول الله ووصيه وحبيبه أنا صفي رسول الله وصاحبه أنا ابن عم رسول الله وزوج ابنته وأبو ولده أنا سيد الوصيين ووصي سيد النبيين أنا الحجة العظمى والآية الكبرى والمثل الأعلى وباب النبي المصطفى أنا العروة الوثقى، وكلمة التقوى وأمين الله تعالى ذكره على أهل الدنيا

Asbagh Ibn Nubatah reported that Imam Ali (a.) said: “The religion of God is not known by the people (Rijal), but by the sign of correctness. So recognise the correctness. You recognise its people. O Har, correctness is the best saying (Hadith) and whoever openly proclaims it is a striving one (Mujahid) and about correctness I teach you. So give me your hearing.” [Al-Amali of At-Tusi, page 626, Hadith 5]

وعنه، قال: أخبرنا جماعة، عن أبي المفضل، قال: حدثنا محمد بن علي بن مهدي الكندي العطار بالكوفة وغيره، قال: حدثنا محمد بن علي بن عمرو بن طريف الحجري، قال: حدثني أبي، عن جميل بن صالح، عن أبي خالد الكابلي، عن الأصبغ بن نباتة عن علي بن أبي طالب عليه السلام قال: إن دين الله لا يعرف بالرجال، بل بآية الحق، فاعرف الحق تعرف أهله يا حار إن الحق أحسن الحديث والصادع به مجاهد وبالحق أخبرك فارعني سمعك

Yahya Ibn Hasan reported that Imam Ali (a.) said: “This is the silent Book of God and I am the interpreter of it. So take the speaking Book of God and leave the judgement with the silent Book of God, since there is no interpreter of it except me.” [Al-Umdah of Ibn-ul-Batriq, page 330]

يحيى بن الحسن عن علي بن أبي طالب عليه السلام قال: وهذا كتاب الله الصامت وانا المعبر عنه، فخذوا بكتاب الله الناطق وذروا الحكم بكتاب الله الصامت إذ لا معبر عنه غيري

Zaid ibn Thabit reported that Prophet Muhammad (s.) said: “I leave you two weighty things: the Book of God and Ali, the son of Abu Talib, and Ali is better for you than the Book of God because he is the interpreter of the Book of God for you.” [Al-Burhan of Al-Bahrani, Volume 1, Page 33, Hadith 32]

الديلمي وأبو الحسن محمد بن شاذان عن زيد بن ثابت عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله قال: إني تارك فيكم الثقلين كتاب الله وعلي بن أبي طالب وعلي أفضل لكم من كتاب الله لأنه مترجم لكم عن كتاب الله

Muhammad ibn Hasan reported that Imam Ali (a.) said: “Respect God and do not enlighten (fatwa) the people about what you do not know.” They said: “But what do we do with what we are being told in the Code (Mus’haf)?” He said: “You ask about it from the knowledgeable ones of the family of Muhammad (s.).” [Al-Fusul-ul-Muhimmah of Al-Amili, Vol. 1, page 595, Hadith 4]

محمد بن الحسن عن علي بن أبي طالب عليه السلام قال: اتقوا الله ولا تفتوا الناس بما لا تعلمون قالوا: فما نصنع بما خبرنا به في المصحف قال: يسأل عن ذلك علماء آل محمد عليهم السلام

Jamil Ibn Darraj reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “People fall into three categories: Knowledgeable, student and Servants. Thus we are the knowers, our followers are the students and the rest of the people are servants.” [Al-Kafi of Al-Kulaini, Volume 1, Page 34, Hadith 4]

علي بن إبراهيم، عن محمد بن عيسى، عن يونس، عن جميل، عن جعفر بن محمد الصادق عليه السلام قال: يغدوا الناس على ثلاثة أصناف: عالم ومتعلم وغثاء، فنحن العلماء وشيعتنا المتعلمون وسائر الناس غثاء

Amir ibn Wathilah reported that Imam Ali (a.) said: “Ask me about the Book of God, for there is no verse except that I know whether it came down by night or by day. Whether in a plain or on a mountain. By God, no verse came down except that I knew for whom it came down and where it came down and to whom it came down and my Lord gave me a speaking tongue and an understanding heart. I am the speaking Qur’an.” [Sharh-ul-Ihqaq of Al-Mar’ashi, Volume 32, Page 67]

عامر بن واثلة عن علي بن أبي طالب عليه السلام قال: سلوني عن كتاب الله فإنه ليس من آية إلا وقد عرفت بليل نزلت أم نهار أم في سهل أم في جبل والله ما نزلت آية إلا وقد علمت فيما نزلت وأين نزلت وعلى من نزلت وإن ربي وهب لي لسانا ناطقا وقلبا عقولا أنا القرآن الناطق
