Is cursing (la’nah) a sin?

Isa Ibn Ubaid reported that Ali Ibn Mahziyar said:“I heard Abu Ja’far (Al-Jawad) say when Abu l-Khattab was mentioned to him: ﴾May God curse Abu l-Khattab and may He curse his companions and may He curse those who doubt about him being cursed and may He curse those who stop at it and doubt it.﴿” Hereupon he said: “This Abu l-Ghamr and Ja’far Ibn Waqid and Hashim Ibn Abi Hashim took advantage of people through us and became callers, who call people, to what Abu l-Khattab called them to. God cursed him and He cursed them along with him and He cursed those, who accepted that from them. O Ali, do not be afraid to curse them, may God curse them, for God has cursed them.” Hereupon he said: “The Messenger (s.) of God said: ﴾Whoever deemed it a sin to curse the one whom God has cursed, then God curses him.﴿” [Al-Ikhtiyar of At-Tusi, Vol. 2, pp. 810 – 811, Hadith 1012]

محمد بن الحسن عن محمد بن قولويه والحسين بن الحسن بن بندار القمي عن سعد بن عبد الله عن إبراهيم بن مهزيار ومحمد بن عيسى بن عبيد عن علي بن مهزيار قال: سمعت أبا جعفر عليه السلام يقول وقد ذكر عنده أبو الخطاب: لعن الله أبا الخطاب، ولعن أصحابه، ولعن الشاكين في لعنه، ولعن من قد وقف في ذلك وشك فيه. ثم قال: هذا أبو الغمر وجعفر بن واقد وهاشم بن أبي هاشم استأكلوا بنا الناس، وصاروا دعاة يدعون الناس إلى ما دعى إليه أبو الخطاب، لعنه الله ولعنهم معه، ولعن من قبل ذلك منهم، يا علي لا تتحرجن من لعنهم لعنهم الله فان الله قد لعنهم، ثم قال، قال رسول الله: من تأثم أن يلعن من لعنه الله فعليه لعنة الله
