“The earth belongs to God, He gives it for an inheritance to whomsoever of His servants He wills. And the (good) end belongs to the God-fearing.” [Al-A’raf 7:128]

Ammar As-Sabati reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “It is said: “The earth belongs to God, He gives it for an inheritance to whomsoever of His servants He wills.” (7:128) So what belongs to God belongs to His Messenger and what belongs to the Messenger belongs to the Imam after the Messenger (s.).” [Tafsir-ul-Ayyashi, Volume 2 page 25 Hadith 65]

Abu Khalid Al-Kabuli reported that Imam Al-Baqir (a.) said: “We found in the book of Ali (a.): “The earth belongs to God, He gives it for an inheritance to whomsoever of His servants He wills. And the (good) end belongs to the God-fearing.” (7:128) I and the people of my house are the ones and God gave us the earth for an inheritance. We are the God-fearing and the whole earth belongs to us. Those, who are fully devoted to God and enliven the earth, shall engage in cultivation on it and hand over its yield to the Imam of the People of my Household and to him belongs that, on which he feeds himself. If he abandons the earth or ruins it and a man of those who are totally devoted to God takes it over and cultivates it and enlivens the earth, then he has a right to it rather than the man who abandoned it. He hands over its yield to the Imam of the people of the house and to himself belongs that on which he feeds, until the rising Imam (Qaim), from the people of my house, goes out with the sword. He will surround it, declare it forbidden and drive them out from it, just as Prophet Muhammad (s.) surrounded it and declared it forbidden with the exception of what is in the hands of our followers, for he himself will distribute what is in their hands and remove from the earth what is in their hands.” Muhammad Baqir Al-Majlisi writes: “Good (Hasan).” [Al-Kafi by Al-Kulaini, Volume 1 page 407 – 408 Hadith 1; Mir’at-ul-Uqul by Al-Majlisi, Volume 4 page 354]

Muhammad ibn Ali reported that Harun Ar-Rashid said to Imam Al-Kazim (a.): “Take Fadak, so that I may return it to you!” But he refused until he urged him and he said: “I will not take it except with its boundaries.” Ar-Rashid said: “Where are its boundaries?” He said: “Will you not give it back to me, if I name them for you?” Ar-Rashid said: “By the right of your grandfather, I will do nothing but that!” He said: “As for the first boundary area, it is in Aden (Yemen).” Thereupon the face of Ar-Rashid changed and he said: “Which else?” He said: “The second border area is Samarqand (Uzbekistan).” Then you could see outrage on his face. He said: “The third is Africa.” Thereupon his face turned black and he said: “Which other?” He said: “The fourth is the ocean and beyond the Caspian Sea and Armenia.” Ar-Rashid said: “Then there is nothing left for us and you will take the seat of my throne!” Imam Al-Kazim (a.) said: “Have I not informed you that if I name it to you, you will not return it to me?” Thereupon he decided to assassinate him.
