Every oath of allegiance (bayah) in the time of occultation is disbelief.

Is it a good idea, to make an oath of allegiance in the absence of the Imam (a.)?

Answer:

Mufaddal Ibn Umar reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “O Mufaddal, before the Riser (Qa’im) appears, every oath of allegiance is disbelief (Kufr), hypocrisy and betrayal. God curse those who take the oath of allegiance and those who receive the oath of allegiance.” [Mukhtasar-ul-Basa’ir of Al-Hilli, page 525 Hadith 516]

عن محمد بن إبراهيم عن إبراهيم بن حسن عن الحسين بن حمدان عن محمد بن إسماعيل وعلي بن عبد الله عن محمد بن نصر عن عمر بن الفرات عن محمد بن المفضل عن المفضل بن عمر عن الإمام الصادق عليه السلام قال: يا مفضل كل بيعة قبل ظهور القائم عليه السلام فبيعته كفر ونفاق وخديعة لعن الله المبايع لها والمبايع له

Mufaddal Ibn Umar reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “O Mufaddal, every oath of allegiance before the appearance of the Riser (Qa’im) is an oath of allegiance of disbelief (Kufr), hypocrisy and betrayal. The curse of God weighs upon those who take an oath of allegiance and upon those who receive the oath of allegiance.” [Bihar-ul-Anwar of Al-Majlisi, Volume 53, Page 8]
