Hold on to the pelvis?

Question:

One of the innovators made the claim that God would hold the believer by his pelvis on the Day of Judgement and go through his sins with him. The 7th volume of Bihar-ul-Anwar on page 277 was cited as the source.

Answer:

Abdullah Ibn Sinan reported that Imam Ja’far As-Sadiq (a.) said: “God holds the believing servant between hip and chest on Judgment Day, and the believer holds his Lord between hip and chest while confessing his sins to Him.” I said: “What’s this holding between the hips and the chest?” He put his hand between his hip and his chest and said: “Just as the man of us talks in private with his brother about a thing he tells him in secret.” Muhammad Baqir Al-Majlisi writes: “The words express a metaphor, meaning that he tells Him in secret and He does not let his sins be known to anyone else as if He took it between his hip and chest.” [Bihar-ul-Anwar, Volume 7, Page 276-277]

عن زيد عن عبد الله بن سنان، عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام قال: إن الله ليخاصر العبد المؤمن يوم القيامة، والمؤمن يخاصر ربه يذكره ذنوبه، قلت: وما يخاصر؟ قال: فوضع يده على خاصرته فقال: هكذا يناجي الرجل منا أخاه في الامر يسره إليه. وقال شيخ الإسلام المجلسي رضي الله عنه: الكلام مسوق على الاستعارة أي يسر إليه ولا يطلع على ذنوبه غيره كأنه يخاصره

Interestingly, the innovators have similar reports.

Sa’id Ibn Al-Musayyib reported that Abu Hurairah said: “We said to the Prophet Muhammad (s.): “O Messenger of God, do we see our Lord?” He said: “Do you see the sun on a cloudless day and do you see the moon on a cloudless night?” We said: “Yes.” He said: “Then you will see God until one of you holds his Lord between his hips and his chest, so that He says to him: “My servant, do you remember this sin and that sin?” He says: “O Lord, have you not forgiven me?” God says: “I have reached there with My forgiveness.” [Al-Asma’ Wa As-Sifat of Al-Baihaqi, hadith 938; Al-Mu’jam-ul-Awsat of At-Tabarani, hadith 1728]
