Muhammad Al-Hurr Al-Amili writes:
باب جواز الصلاة الواجبة وغيرها في البيع والكنائس وإن كان أهلها يصلون فيها واستحباب رش المكان ووجوب استقبال القبلة
Chapter: The permission of the obligatory prayer and others in the synagogues and churches, even if the people of them pray in them, and the desirability of sprinkling the place (with water) and the obligation to turn to the direction of prayer
٦١٤٦ / ١ – محمد بن الحسن باسناده عن الحسين بن سعيد، عن صفوان بن يحيى، عن العيص بن القاسم قال: سألت أبا عبد الله عليه السلام عن البيع والكنائس يصلى فيها؟ قال: نعم، وسألته هل يصلح بعضها مسجدا فقال: نعم
1/6146 – Muhammad Ibn Hasan reported with his chain to Husain Ibn Sa’id, who reported from Safwan Ibn Yahya, who reported from Iys Ibn Qasim, that he said: “I questioned Abu Abdillah (As-Sadiq) about the synagogues and churches: “Do you pray in them? He said: “Yes.” And I asked him: “Do any of them qualify as mosques?” To which he said: “Yes.”
٦١٤٧ / ٢ – وعنه عن النضر عن عبد الله بن سنان عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام قال: سألته عن الصلاة في البيع والكنائس وبيوت المجوس فقال: رش وصل
2/6147 – And of him who reported from Nadr, who reported from Abdullah Ibn Sinan, who reported from Abu Abdillah (As-Sadiq), that he said: “I questioned him about the prayer in the synagogues and churches and houses of the Zoroastrians, whereupon he said: “Sprinkle and pray.”
٦١٤٨ / ٣ – وعنه عن فضالة، عن حماد الناب عن حكم بن الحكم قالسمعت أبا عبد الله عليه السلام يقول وسئل عن الصلاة في البيع والكنائس فقالصل فيها قد رأيتها ما أنظفها، قلتأيصلى فيها وإن كانوا يصلون فيها فقال نعم أما تقرأ القرآن قل كل يعمل على شاكلته فربكم أعلم بمن هو أهدى سبيلا صل إلى القبلة وغربهم ورواه الصدوق باسناده عن صالح بن الحكم قالسئل الصادق عليه السلام وذكر نحوه إلا أنه ترك قوله قد رأيتها ما أنظفها وقال في آخره وصل إلى القبلة ودعهم
3/6148 – And of him who reported of Fadalah, who reported from Hammad An-Nab, who reported from Hakam Ibn Hakam, that he said: “I heard Abu Abdillah (As-Sadiq) say when he was questioned about prayer in the synagogues and churches, saying: ‘Pray in them. I have seen them. How pure they are.” I said: “Do you pray in them when they pray in them?” To which he said: “Yes. Do you not read the Qur’an: “Say: Everyone acts according to his own way. Your Lord knows better who follows the more right way.” (17:84) Pray in the direction of prayer and keep your distance from them.” And As-Saduq reported it with his chain to Salih Ibn Hakam, who said: “They questioned As-Sadiq (a.).” And he mentioned similar things, except that he omitted his statement: “How pure they are.” And he said at the end: “Pray in the direction of prayer and leave them alone.”
٦١٤٩ / ٤ – محمد بن يعقوب، عن علي بن إبراهيم، عن محمد بن عيسى، عن يونس عن عبد الله بن سنان قالسألت أبا عبد الله عليه السلام عن الصلاة في البيع والكنائس فقالرش وصل، قالوسألته عن بيوت المجوس فقالرشها وصل
4/6149 – Muhammad Ibn Ya’qub reported from Ali Ibn Ibrahim, who reported from Muhammad Ibn Isa, who reported from Yunus, who reported from Abdullah Ibn Sinan, that he said: “I questioned Abu Abdillah (As-Sadiq) about prayer in the synagogues and churches, whereupon he said: “Sprinkle and pray.” He said: “And i questioned him about the houses of the Zoroastrians, whereupon he said: “Sprinkle and pray.”
٦١٥٠ / ٥ – وعنه عن أبيه عن ابن أبي عمير عن حماد عن الحلبي عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام في حديث قال سألته عن الصلاة في البيعة فقال إذا استقبلت القبلة فلا بأس به
5/6150 – And of him who reported from his father, who reported from Ibn Abi Umair, who reported from Hammad, who reported from Al-Halabi, who reported from Abu Abdillah (As-Sadiq) in a saying that he said: “I questioned him about the prayer in a synagogue, whereupon he said: “Turn to the direction of prayer. So there is no problem.”
٦١٥١ / ٦ – عبد الله بن جعفر في قرب الإسناد عن السندي بن محمد، عن أبي البختري عن جعفر، عن أبيه، عن علي عليهم السلام قاللا بأس بالصلاة في البيعة والكنيسة الفريضة والتطوع والمسجد أفضل
6/6151 – Abdullah Ibn Ja’far reported in Qurb-ul-Isnad of Sindi Ibn Muhammad, who reported from Bakhtari Ibn Ja’far, who reported from Ja’far, who reported from his father, that Imam Ali (a.) said: “There is no problem in the prayer in the synagogue and church, the obligatory and voluntary and the mosque is more excellent.” [Wasa’il-ush-Shi’ah, volume 5, pages 138-139]
